The Faculty of Veterinary Science, University of Sydney, is researching the inheritance of pannus (chronic superficial keratitis) in the greyhound breed.

This is an immune mediated disorder that affects the corneas & can cause visual impairment in affected dogs.

Early studies analysing pedigree data suggest an inherited trait. The next phase of the study will involve genotyping to pinpoint regions of DNA associated with the pannus trait.

We need greyhounds affected with pannus to contribute either a buccal (cheek) swab or a small amount (2 ml) of blood for the study.

Owners / trainers of affected greyhounds who would like to assist with this study, are asked to contact vets@grnsw.com.au. Information & consent forms will be provided.
