Greyhound Racing NSW (GRNSW) is delighted to announce that following the success of the inaugural event in 2024, the GRNSW Puppy Auction will return next year.
After an absence of five years, GRNSW reintroduced a Puppy Auction in May, with impressive results. Auction day saw more than $1.27 million in sales, with an average lot price of just under $9,600, with all pups sold at that auction eligible to race in a $200,000 GRNSW Auction Race Series which will be run late in 2025.
It will be the same situation with the 2025 Auction with pups purchased becoming eligible for the 2026 GRNSW Auction Race Series which will carry similar prizemoney, with $150,000 for the winner of the final, $30,000 for second, $15,000 for third and unplaced receiving $3,000 each.
In addition, GRNSW will once again have a Breeder’s Bonus of $1,000 paid to the breeder of the winner, and $250 to the breeders of each remaining starter in the final of the GRNSW Auction Race Series.
There will also be a Breeder’s Bonus of $500 to the breeder of each pup sold at the auction that has its first race start in NSW, and a $500 Breeder’s Bonus to the breeder of each pup that has its first race win in NSW.
The GRNSW Puppy Auction will be held on May 25, 2025, and will again take place at the Richmond racetrack.
The Auction is open to pups whelped between July 1, 2024 and January 31, 2025, with nominations for the event already open.
“It’s great news to be able to confirm that we will once again be staging the GRNSW Puppy Auction in 2025,” Acting Chief Executive Officer Wayne Billett said.
“It had been a long time since we had held a puppy auction here in NSW, the previous one being back in 2019. I had been asked many times about GRNSW bringing it back but to be honest I wasn’t completely sure how it would be received, but I was very pleasantly surprised on the day.
“Breeders had been saying for some time that they needed a marketplace to be able to sell their pups and they got that at the Auction, and with prizemoney at an all-time high in the NSW industry, buyers were as keen as ever to get involved, and we saw that by the results.
“The Auction attracted a big crowd and generated much interest in the lead-up and post event, and the results showed that we do have a very viable industry.
“So there was very little hesitation in deciding to stage the Auction again in 2025, and we now hope that the breeders support our decision by nominating their pups for the day.”
