Greyhound Racing NSW (GRNSW) is today announcing $200,000 of emergency financial assistance to industry participants impacted by the flooding devastation on the Mid North Coast and Northern Rivers.
The greyhound industry has always had strong roots in the regions, and many of our participants have suffered substantial personal loss from the severe weather and subsequent flooding.
Additionally, with a number of local race meetings in the Mid North Coast region also cancelled due to flooding during this time, the participants have also suffered from the loss of potential earnings.
GRNSW will be offering emergency assistance to participants in the impacted regions and is urging those affected to immediately reach out to take advantage of the package.
“This is a harrowing time for the people in Mid North Coast and Northern Rivers areas and we have a large participant and greyhound population in those regions,” GRNSW Chief Executive Officer Steve Griffin said.
“Our affected participants face enormous challenges at this time and if we are able to offer some financial support to help get them back on their feet and start to get through this time, it’s the very least we can do.
“We are an industry where welfare is paramount to us, particularly for our animals, but equally for our humans, and during times of crisis and hardship, we have not only seen the remarkable resilience of our people, but how we band together as an industry.”
As it has done at all times during natural disasters across the State, GRNSW has ensured emergency kennelling at the Taree track for participants who have needed to evacuate their properties.
