Sarah Easey is not considered a "big time" professional trainer and doesn't have a lineup of wealthy owners  but she achieved a remarkable feat by winning the 2025 Richmond Straight Track Trainers' Premiership.

Easey landed an incredible 49 winners on the Richmond straight track last year, beginning with a treble on June 12 with Despicable Milo, Despicable Margo and Despicable Pedro.

She topped that milestone by landing four winners on July 10 with Despicable Otto, Despicable Pedro, Despicable Swift and Despicable Dash.

And the "Despicable" prefix? "There is nothing significant about that, my partner Mitchell Pryce and I were sitting around one day trying to come up with a suitable prefix name for all our dogs,'' Easey said.

"We went around in circles and eventually decided the whole process was becoming despicable so we landed on that as the prefix.''

Easey, who will be 35 this year, formerly worked in office administration while caring for her three children, a 12-year-old girl and boys aged seven and 10.

"The boys aren't interested in the greyhounds but our daughter Savannah is pretty keen,'' Easey said.

What makes Easey's triumph on the Richmond straight track all the more remarkable is that she and Mitchell Pryce do "everything'' from scratch.

She said: "We breed and whelp our pups, then we rear them all on our five acre (2ha) property at Castlereagh, and when they are old enough we educate them and pre-train them.

"So there is nothing concerning our greyhounds we don't do, we are actually breaking in 30 youngsters right now.''

Easey does not "give up" on problem greyhounds either, as she raised plenty of eyebrows when she won a 297 maiden race at Dapto in February last year with Despicable Zara.

Nothing astounding in that except that Despicable Zara had turned four, and became eligible for Masters races, three months earlier.

Easey and Pryce had paid $10,000 for Despicable Zara as a pup because she was a half sister to the 2020 National Derby winner Oh Mickey.

Never-ending setbacks meant that Despicable Zara was already a veteran before she commenced racing, but Easey obviously possesses patience aplenty.

"Obviously I love racing up the straight but I am about to introduce a lot of our straight trackers to the circle, and have high hopes for a dog called Despicable Rambo,'' she said.

"He is the quickest in our kennels and has won seven from 15 starts, finishing second at Goulburn at his only race around a bend.''
