LAW Book's owner-breeder Craig Sheridan paid tribute to trainer Jodie Lord's husband Andy's knowledge of greyhounds after his dog clocked a sensational 29.53 in his all-the-way 520m fifth grade win at Wentworth Park on Saturday night.

"Andy once gave me a bitch called Book Of Days and while she won only four races he advised me to mate her to a dog called My Bro Fabio and keep the best female from her litter,'' Sheridan recalled.

"He promised that would set me up with a good breeding line and the best bitch from Book Of Days' litter was Book Of Luck, who is the mother of Law Book.

"Not only that, but Law Book's litter brother Ayden's Warrior won in a flying 29.39 at Wenty on September 19, while his litter brother King Tide has won four races at WP and was beaten a nose in 29.74 tonight.''

Melbourne Cup winner Yachi Bale took his earnings to $844,000 by running down Father Rick to win by a neck in 29.73 in Saturday night's much anticipated top grade 520m Masters race.

It was an outstanding performance as Yachi Bale got onto the heels of second placed Cumbria Days leaving the back straight, which forced him to remain in third position on the home bend.

Yachi Bale's win, his 20th in 77 starts, gave visiting Melbourne trainer Mark Delbridge a winning double.

Delbridge took out Saturday's opening event with WP newcomer Paw Petrov, who overcame a slow start to win by three lengths.

Paw Petrov is owned by Brendan Wheeler, son of the late great owner-breeder Paul Wheeler.

"Brendan is using the Paw prefix for his dogs now, naming them in honour of his dad, Paul Alexander Wheeler,'' Delbridge explained.

"It is a suitable tribute to his father, who, after all, built the breeding empire of the Wheeler family.''

Drink Tins almost certainly earned a crack at next month's age restricted $25,000 to the winner WP Young Star with an impressive all-the-way win in a slick 29.63 on Saturday night.

Drink Tins, who had won six of 14 races at the provincials, was having his first start at WP but after the race trainer Dana Ivers said: "I brought the dog to WP last Monday and gave him a box-to-box trial.

"He went extra well so tonight's win didn't really surprise me.''

Drink Tins is a son of Drink Moet, who won 22 races for trainer Michelle Sultana, who took out Friday night's Sires On Ice Black Top at Ladbrokes Gardens with Sunset Frazier.

Canya Amy, who chased home the mighty Palawa King in the group 1 Association Cup at WP in April, produced a slashing trial for next month's $40,000 Sydney Cup with a last-to-first success over 720m on Saturday night.

The Victorian owned greyhound re-joined the kennels of David Smith just a fortnight ago, and the Sydney trainer had been unsure whether Canya Amy was yet ready to produce her best 720m form.

But Canya Amy, despite being slowly away from her unsuitable box seven draw, railed into fifth position at the first turn and after being third on the back straight hit the front at the top of the straight.

She covered the 720m in a personal best time of 42.07, and Smith is confident she will be all the better for the run, with his bitch set to reprise her clash with Palawa King in the Sydney Cup series.

Inconspicuous, runner-up to Power And Glory in track record time in the Bulli regional final of the Million Dollar Chase on September 17, made a stunning WP debut for Victorian trainer Anthony Azzopardi on Saturday night.

Inconspicuous won a 520m fourth and fifth grade in 29.47, taking his tally to 14 wins from 33 starts, in the process giving Azzopardi, who also scored with Bumpy Gold, a winning double.

Mark Gatt trained Sammy Ethan to record a personal best 29.50 in notching his 10th WP win on Saturday while his brother Daniel Gatt was successful with Blue Goose Boy in 29.61, a 29.47 winner on Septemer 21.

Peter Lagogiane, who has trained two Million Dollar Chase winners, has a worthy 2024 candidate in Angel Shirley, who overcame early trouble to win Saturday's final event, a 520m fifth grade, in 29.59, just .04sec outside her personal best time at WP.
