Charlie Gatt, Fred Shoobert and Pauline Moran, who landed the first three winners at Wentworth Park on Saturday night, have been training for a combined 168 years.

Gatt, who won the opening event with Angelo in 30.19, has been a trainer for 53 years, while 85-year-old Fred Shoobert, who won the following race with Hooked On Fame, has held a licence since 1964.

And Pauline Moran, who won the first of two 720m races on Saturday with Clearly Nathan, has been a trainer for 55 years.

Gatt's winner Angelo was a gift to him from fellow trainer Joe Baldacchino, who raced the dog's dam, Mascot Miss, who won 10 races.

"I had done Joe Baldacchino a favour a few years earlier so when Mascot Miss whelped a litter to Hard Style Rico in January, 2022, he presented me with the red brindle dog pup which races as Angelo,'' Gatt said.

"Mascot Miss had a lot of ability but was inclined to be a bit erratic and was reluctant to go into the catching pen after a race.''

Fred Shoobert bought Hooked On Fame (pictured), who led all the way in 29.82, as a puppy for $4500 and on Saturday the dog scored his 21st win and his fifth success at Wentworth Park.

"I was keen on the stud dog Hooked On Scotch so was after a pup by him from a bitch that had strength when she raced,'' Shoobert said.

"I managed to find the ideal purchase from a breeder in Queensland and that pup turned out to be Hooked On Fame.

"Hooked On Fame is the most successful dog I have had since I got my licence in the 60 years I have had a licence although a bitch named Vanity Time was just as quick.''

Clearly Nathan scored only his second win in 39 starts when he took out a 720m fifth grade on Saturday in the fair time of 42.44.

After the race trainer Pauline Moran said: "Clearly Nathan is desperate for an inside draw and tonight was only the second time he has had box one.

"He is no world beater but since I have been training him he has earned a cheque nearly every time he has raced because he has run 15 placings.''

Saturday's other 720m race resulted in a quinella for trainer Greg Hore, with his $26 outsider Siska Roy leading all the way and just lasting to win by a nose from kennelmate and litter sister Siska Lucy, a $3.80 chance, in 42.66.

"Tonight Siska Roy was having his first 720m run for a month and while I thought he could be the pacemaker I expected Siska Lucy to come home too strongly for him,'' Hore said later.

"But he hung on to win by a nose.''

Fastest time of the night was the 29.52 posted by the Mark Gatt-trained Sammy Ethan, who led all the way to notch his 12th Wentworth Park win.

Nangar Lady gave trainer Jodie Lord the first leg of a winning double when she won in 29.77, recording her fifth Wentworth Park win from five appearances since October 18.

Then Nangar Lady's kennelmate Ayden's Warrior clocked second best time of the meeting after leading from the first turn to win in 29.58.

Father Rick took his earnings to more than $326,000 with an all-the-way win in Saturday's Masters race, his 13th victory coming at the expense of hot favourite Deadly Class, who missed the start from box eight and was checked at the first turn.

The Mark Gatt-trained Deadly Class went under by just under a length.
