Star sprinter Power And Glory has clocked the fastest post-to-post in Wentworth Park history.

The Kenny Burnett-trained chaser slipped solo after the last at headquarters on Saturday night and ran a remarkable 23.38, smashing the previous mark set by Simply Limelight of 23.52 in 2023. Wow also ran 23.65 in 2021.

The run blowing the socks off those trackside, and coming after more than two months away from the racing circuit with a hip flexor injury.

“It was unbelievable…I was by myself, so I had to get back to the catching pen and get him but as I was jogging past, I glanced over at the semaphore board and saw the time,” Burnett said on Sunday morning.

“I heard the lure driver talking to Donny [Micallef] and he said, “that can’t be right, Kenny must have tripped it when he walked back”, but I know the dog mate and I can tell ya, he ran it.”

“The clocker at the track yelled out to Hayley Lord, “was that your dog that Kenny Burnett just handled? Because he just broke every section record, we have”. It was a very exciting drive home.”

The trial setting tongues wagging ahead of a tilt at the Group 2 Ladbrokes Temora Cup heats on Sunday March 9, followed by the $300,000 Group 1 Ladbrokes Golden Easter Egg.

“He’d run 23.68 previously but you never know how they’ll come back from injury. You take a look at this dog though and he looks magnificent, you can see yourself in his coat and he’s very healthy,” Burnett added.

‘So we’ll head to the Temora Cup now. He’ll have a run there on Wednesday ahead of Sunday’s heats and then we’ll target him at the Easter Egg,”

Trainer Ken Burnett with Power And Glory who is also the Bulli 472m track record holder after running 25.76 in September last year.

“Before the Million Dollar Chase we got offered big money for this dog…it was half a million dollar offer. I took it to the owner, Jeffery Eastburn, and he just said “Kenny I bought the dog to have a bit of fun, I’m retired, I just want to enjoy the dog and enjoy the ride with you, I’m really happy, so let’s hang onto him”

“I was fortunate he stuck with me because we know he’s such a fast dog and he’s part of the family. We reared him here and we’ve had him since he was a baby so he means a lot to us. We’re rearing the next litter out of Kwong Magic by Shima Shine here at the moment so we’re looking forward to seeing what they can do in time.”

Power And Glory is a son of Hooked On Scotch and has won 11 of 23 race starts for a shade over $65,000 in career earnings.
