Honk If You Want To Be The New Sensation

Honk Honk had box seven when she clocked her near record 29.19 Wentworth Park figures but trainer Tony Mason is glad she has drawn an inside box for Saturday night's Simply Limelight New Sensation final at headquarters.

Honk Honk chased She's That Girl all-the-way when second, beaten two-and-a-half lengths in last week's fastest 29.23 heat, but had box six in that race.

Trainer Tony Mason said: "There is so much early pace in the final so she is better off being near the fence.

"I think Taormina, who has box one, might lead my bitch early but she could get off the track slightly at the first turn and I'm hoping Honk Honk can slide through.

"She is a tenacious chaser and I rate her on a par with Miley Nismo, who finished third to King Cratos for me in a heat of the 2019 New Sensation.

"Miley Nismo was a better beginner and was very strong but Honk Honk is such a fierce chaser I reckon she is just as good.''

Peter Lagogiane, trainer of fastest qualifier She's That Girl, said: "My bitch doesn't always come out under the lids but when she gets the start right she has a big motor.

"And I believe She's That Girl is the strongest greyhound in the final, I expect her to be a middle distance star later on.

"Box six is not great but so long as Black Myth Wave, who has box eight and has very good early speed, stays wide going to the first corner, my bitch should get the clear air she needs.''

Canya Sapphire, who has box five, is arguably the fastest beginner in training and the Jason Magri-trained speedster could give She's That Girl a "cart" across in the charge to the bend.

Good Odds Cobber has been carrying all before him, winning one group race after another, and his litter sister Mia Magnifico resumes in Saturday's Ladbrokes Blackbook Stakes, a 520m fifth grade.

"She has not raced since hurting her wrist in the final of the Richmond Oaks on February 28 but is trialling well again,'' trainer Neville Brown said.

"While I believe her real future lies in races longer than 520m, Mia Magnifico is ideally positioned in box one on Saturday.

"Because of Good Odd Cobber's successes, Mia Magnifico is extremely valuable as a prospective brood bitch.

"But she has the best temperament of any bitch I have trained so even if she was not Good Odds Cobber's sister, I would still be breeding from her.''

Ibrox Maverick, who has won four of six races at the provincials, is making his Wentworth Park debut in Saturday's Simply Limelight @ Stud Stakes, a 1-4 wins 520m fifth grade.

Trainer Billy Dance said: "Ibrox Maverick has had a couple of trials at Wenty so he knows his way around the track.

"They were box-to-box trials because it seems all the top trainers favour those as preparation for a race at Wentworth Park.

"Ibrox Maverick had won three in a row before being disappointing when fifth at Gosford on Tuesday night.

"But he did miss the jump from box eight and is perfectly positioned in box one on Saturday.''

Hard Style Girl overcame a slow getaway to win at her first Wentworth Park appearance on March 8 and trainer James McGuiness is banking on her beginning better on Saturday night.

Hard Style Girl has box four in the 520m fifth grade 1-4 wins Ladbrokes Mates Mode Pots Stakes, and while she has not raced or trialled since her 30.03 Wentworth Park win she is ready to go.

"She doesn't need a lot of trials, Hard Style Girl has been getting plenty of work in the runs at home,'' McGuiness said.

"Hopefully she will get away better than she did when she won first-up at Wenty earlier this month.''

Saturday's best bet looms as Poco Rico, ideally placed in box one and back in fifth grade for the first time since January when he tackles the 520m Ladbrokes Calcutta Stakes.

When Poco Rico last contested a fifth grade he won over 515m at Gosford on January 28 in a scorching 29.16, which compared well with the course record of 28.88.

Poco Rico found Flash On By too strong at the end of 605m when second in a Dubbo Country Classic semi-final on March 8 so should relish being back over 520m and coming up with box one.

He boasts the outstanding record of six wins and four placings from 14 outings while wearing the red rug.
