Crack trainer Jason Thompson won Golden Easter Egg finals with Don't Knocka Him in 2012 and Moreira four years later but rates Flying Zulu, his entry in the 2025 Ladbrokes series, as a superior greyhound.

Flying Zulu, who has won 26 of 49 races and over $918,000, has box five in Saturday night's second 520m heat at Wentworth Park.

"He is definitely faster than Don't Knocka Him or Moreira, who both had box one when they won their Easter Egg finals,'' Thompson said.

"Flying Zulu is a super dog and box five at Wentworth Park is usually not too bad.

"He has not trialled on the track because this is a three week series so he only has to run a place to make it into next week's semis.

"Besides, we own Flying Zulu, so we don't run the risk of an owner telling us we should have come to Sydney to trial beforehand if he happens to get beaten.

"Flying Zulu has raced on so many different tracks yet has handled them all capably, although he is at the back end of his career now.

"I rate his best win as his victory in the Group One Brisbane Cup when he ran down top class greyhounds like Lakeview Emily and Good Odds Cobber, although his win at Sandown on January 23 was in 28.83, which is sensational time.''

Champion Victorian bitch Lakeview Emily returns to Wentworth Park in heat six of the Easter Egg, just a week after taking out the Group Two Shepparton Cup as a $2.10 hotpot.

At her sole Wentworth Park appearance on October 5, Lakeview Emily was a $2.50 favourite but was in trouble at box rise and skittled at the first turn before finishing a game fourth to Midnight Spritz.

On Saturday night she will exit box six, and trainer Harley Whelan said: "She doesn't mind being drawn out wide.

"And I notice she has a vacant box on her left so that will help her chances.''

Making his Wentworth Park debut on Saturday is the up-and-coming Victorian Colac Kid, who has box eight in heat 9 of the Easter Egg.

Trainer Jason Sharp said: "Colac Kid can handle an outside box because while he is not a brilliant beginner, he goes quick when he hits the ground.

"I'm hoping he can get on the lure early because he is a very fast dog when on the bunny.''

Among the leading NSW prospects in the Egg heats is Sooty Keeping, who has box two in heat one.

Sooty Keeping has won four of eight starts at Wentworth Park, where she has recorded 29.40, and she clocked a very slick 29.45 winning over 516m at Dubbo last Saturday.

Shayne Stiff, whose partner Charmaine Roberts trains Sooty Keeping, said: "Our greyhound has had the perfect preparation for this series.

"She just has to jump cleanly to be awfully hard to beat, and from what I've seen of the Victorian Paw Phelps, who has box one, he is not a brilliant beginner.

"We are glad Sooty Keeping has drawn near the fence because while outside boxes don't bother her, if she happens to dwell at the start she has a better chance of finding a run than if she was positioned on the outside.

"There are some really strong heats on Saturday night but our bitch looks to be in one of the softer qualifiers.''

Jungle Johnny edged out Late Night News to snare the $100,000 first prize in last Saturday night's Ladbrokes Country Classic but is coming back from 605m to 520m in this week's fourth Easter Egg heat.

Trainer Mark Gatt said: "He has a tricky draw in box six because there are several dogs in this race who have more early speed than Jungle Johnny.

"Black Myth Wave and Chief Lightning, in boxes two and four, are fast early and so is the Victorian dog Paw Ollie, who has box one and has clocked 29.13 at Sandown from an inside draw.

"Then there is Gets Late Early in box six who probably has more early pace than my bloke.

"But Jungle Johnny's draw could work out all right, it depends if they get out of his way in the middle stages.''

Best bet on Saturday should be Late Night News, currently Sydney's top stayer and a fast-finishing runner-up to Jungle Johnny in the Ladbrokes Country Classic at Dubbo.

Late Night News has box one in Saturday's opening event, a top grade 720m race, where her main rival looms as Victoria's Double Denim, in box eight.

Double Denim ran wide when winning in 42.77 at her Wentworth Park debut on March 20 but needs to improve sharply on the clock, as Late Night News boasts a personal best 720m time of 41.60.
