Robert Russo purchased his first greyhound 63 years ago but had his most successful Wentworth Park meeting on Saturday night, winning a double with Dynamic Gregory and Saint Rico before landing a close second placing with Dynamic Drummer.

Dynamic Gregory led all the way for trainer Ruth King in 30.14 while the Charlie Gatt-trained Saint Rico also led throughout, stopping the clock at 29.70, fastest time of the night.

Dynamic Drummer, a litter brother to each of Russo's winners, came from last to be beaten a half length by Canya Brew It in 29.96.

Russo, a successful Sydney businessman, said: "I'm 83 and bought my first greyhound, Prince Seal, when I was 19.

Saint Rico is now a 10-time winner for trainer Charlie Gatt and owner Robert Russo

"I trained him myself and while I was told at one stage he was no good Prince Seal finished up winning 22 races.

"I bred Dynamic Gregory, Saint Rico and Dynamic Drummer by mating my bitch Sonata to Fernando Bale, and I'm very excited because a month or so ago she whelped a  litter to champion sire Bernardo.

"Although Sonata had a big litter of 10, none are for sale, I want to race them all.

"Owning greyhounds is my main interest, I don't drink, don't smoke and hardly ever even have bet, so I just want to watch my dogs in action. ''

Saint Rico, whose best form prior to Saturday night was from wide draws, jumped in front from box three and staved off a late finish by Player One to win by a head.

Trainer Charlie Gatt said: "Saint Rico has been railing better lately and handled his inside draw well tonight.''

Gatt trained Sonata, the dam of Russo's winners, and while she won only five of 44 races, the trainer added: "She could run when she wanted to but she tended to be a bit unreliable.''

Brian Barrington has built 33 greyhound tracks in Australia and others as far afield as New Zealand, China, Taiwan and Dubai, but he was at WP as a winning trainer on Saturday night.

Barrington's dog Premier Status, one of only three greyhounds the 79-year-old has in work, led all the way and just lasted to win by a nose from Cumbria George in 30.38.

While Barrington is a world renowned builder of racetracks, he has also been a successful trainer over several decades preparing former top notchers Statistician, Statistician, Golden Hazden and Brent's Desire.

Premier Status, who turns three in September, was having only his 14th start on Saturday night, a legacy, according to Barrington, of the dog being slow to mature.

"To be honest he is a complete dunce,'' Barrington said.

"Premier Status has just been an extremely slow learner but he is coming good with age and trialled well at WP last week, clocking a fast first split of 5.39.''

Bonus Ethics drew box seven but flashed home from fourth on the back straight to win in 30.31 on Saturday night for trainer Peter Rodgers.

She had won from box three at WP a week earlier but despite her success on Saturday from a wide draw, Rodgers said: "Bonus Ethics is 100 per cent better from an inside alley.

Bonus Ethics (pictured with Peter Rodgers) is a daughter of Tommy Shelby x White Sox Ethics

"What won it for her tonight was her tenacity and her good track sense.

"Coming to the home turn I thought she was about to go for an inside run but when she saw there was no room she pulled to the outside and was coming away at the finish.''

Training honours for Saturday's card went to Joe McFadyen, who won with Canya Brew It in 29.96 and Ali Tango in 29.77.
