The NSW team will look to defend its title in the Greyhound State of Origin Series at the new Ladbrokes Q2 Parklands venue on June 12 after details of the event were released by Racing Queensland.
In 2024 NSW – then coached by now rugby league Origin coach Laurie Daley - swept the Queensland team for the first time since the inception of the three-race series in 2018. NSW won the Distance race with Palawa King, the Sprint with Overflow Beau and then a thrilling Match Race with Mackenna.
The teams will again this year race for $360,000 in prizemoney with $150,000 on offer for the Sprint and Distance events and $60,000 for the match race.
Both Queensland and NSW Squads will be announced next Friday, May 23, with selection panels finalising teams on June 6, and box draws conducted on June 9.
For NSW greyhounds the conditions are:
A: A greyhound is eligible to be nominated for New South Wales if it has been domiciled in New South Wales for at least 76 of the 150 days immediately preceding June 12, 2025.
B. If the greyhound has not been trained for a total or 76 days in its career, it will be deemed to be eligible for New South Wales if it has been trained in New South Wales for all its race starts.
C. A greyhound shall be deemed to be domiciled in New South Wales commencing on the date on which the change of kennel notification form (or equivalent evidence produced) is received by GWIC.
