Feral Franky's trainer Jack Smith is already planning a Wentworth Park trial for Magpie Hector after the dog's sensational debut win at Temora last week.
Having his first start, in a 457m event, Magpie Hector was fourth away but in a few strides had left his rivals in his wake, winning by a dozen lengths in 25.51, outstanding figures for a maiden.
Jason Thompson's Victorian champion Explicit set a new track record at 25.16 when he broke Heidi McGraw's 25.29 record on September 4 last year.
Prior to Heidi McGraw's record run the time standard stood at 25.38, posted by none other than Jodie and Andy Lord's champion She's A Pearl.
Jack Smith, who has trained the likes of Jungle Deuce, Palawa King, Brad Hill Billy and Miss Ezmae in recent years, had this to say about his new son of Feral Franky: "I had intended taking Magpie Hector to Wentworth Park for a trial this week but with rain predicted I have put that on hold.
"So Magpie Hector will race again at Temra on Wednesday before having a look at Wenty.''
An unexpected error occurred.
Magpie Hector is raced by a syndicate from Smith's home town of Forbes, headed by Andrew Walker, who has previously raced dogs bearing the Magpie prefix with the famous western districts trainer.
Ross Davidson, who bred Magpie Hector after mating his bitch Foxy Bourbski with Feral Franky, said: "The syndicate members are tied up with the Forbes Magpies junior rugby league club and Andrew picked this dog out when he was three months old.
"Foxy Bourbski won a dozen races for $60,000 but on the track she did not quite go to the top level I had expected of her in the early stages of her career.
"But she is a grand-daughter of Bourbski Fever, who won Melbourne's 2015 group one Bold Trease for me when trained by Tom Dailly and Magpie Hector is from her first litter.
"When Magpie Hector began trialling I asked Jack Smith how his times were comparing with Feral Franky's at the same stage and he said they were similar but it was too early to get carried away and predict anything too special.
"I am waiting for Foxy Bourbski to come in season again because she will be mated with Fernando Bale.
"Magpie Hector does not seem to be a 'one off' in his litter as his brother Slick Splits has already won a maiden heat and final at The Meadows for the Dailly kennel while Buster Bourbski, another litter sibling, was runner up in that final after winning his heat.''
Michael Wales was a successful country racehorse trainer from 1996 to 2008 but has returned to his first love - greyhound racing - as the owner of outstanding prospect Canya Entertain.
Trained by Jodie Lord, Canya Entertain made a stunning debut at Dapto last Thursday night, winning by 10 lengths in a slick 16.91 for the 297m.
"While I was training thoroughbreds, I won a country premiership and was Dubbo's leading trainer a couple of times as well as winning races in Sydney with horses like Fly Bye and He's Smokin','' Wales said.
"But before that, I owned a lot of smart greyhounds, among them On Fire Frankie, who took out a $50,000 to the winner Golden Sands on the old Gold Coast Parklands track.
"Other top notchers I raced included Royal Cowboy and Kirsty's Rose and I'm glad to be involved again in this great sport.
"Actually, it was my 11-year-old daughter Samantha who really persuaded me to get back into owning greyhounds, she is obsessed with watching them race and is over the moon about Canya Entertain.
"I came across Canya Entertain and bought her just after she was broken in and Jodie and Andy Lord, her trainers, are confident she will get 520m and is set to become a first-class performer.''
