Snowman, described by owner-trainer John Smart as the slowest member of his Fernando Bale-Lovelace litter whelped in October, 2020, notched his 11th Wentworth Park win on Saturday night.

Snowman took the lead at the first turn and after being chased all the way by Freydis, held on to win by just under a length in 30.14.

Going into the race with 114 starts behind him, Snowman recorded his 19th victory and took his earnings to over $93,000.

After the race John Smart said: "I wasn't surprised Snowman got a bit tired because I had not been able to work him properly due to all the wet weather.

"He is a litter brother to Showman Jack, who won the 2023 Country Classic at Dubbo for me and retired with over $224,000 prizemoney.

"These dogs out of Lovelace have been fantastic and her three litters have now won a combined total of nearly $800,000.

"Not bad considering I got Lovelace for nothing.

"Fellow trainer Preston Rowles possessed a litter of pups and I agreed to rear them for him on a one-for-one basis, meaning I raised them but received half of them in return.

"Lovelace was one of the pups I secured and while she won a dozen races and $77,000 she has been even better as a producer, she has been a goldmine.''

James Yip, owner of Saturday's top grade 520m winner, the Jason Magri-trained Speedy Pie, secured that greyhound on a similar "one-for-one" arrangement with fellow owner Ray Holt.

Speedy Pie is a daughter of Sweet City Woman, and Yip secured ownership of Saturday's winner, along with her outstanding litter brother and kennelmate, Chief Lightning, through Ray Holt, the owner of her dam.

Speedy Pie has now won 21 of 49 races for $106,000, while Chief Lightning has earned $95,000 after winning 18 of 37 starts.

From the same litter have come the Ray Holt-owned duo Overflow Beau and Overflow Jill, which are trained by Craig Chappelow, and who have won $316,000 and $103,000 respectively.

After Speedy Pie's win on Saturday, trainer Jason Magri said: "When she begins cleanly like she did tonight, she has so much pace she can really open them up.

"Because of her pedigree and how good her siblings are, Speedy Pie has tremendous value as a brood bitch when she has finished racing.''

Speedy Pie dominated Saturday's race with slick early splits of 5.41 and 13.70, with her overall time of 29.66 a mere .04sec outside her personal best Wentworth Park figures, posted in August last year.

Her win represented the first leg of a winning treble for trainer Jason Magri, who landed fifth grade races with Zipping Grinch in 29.73 and with Zipping Hasler in 29.85.

Zipping Grinch ran down the Craig Chappelow-trained Crazed while Zipping Hasler overcame a slow start to finish brilliantly for a neck victory over Joe Scerri's Rosa Marie.

Zipping Grinch and Zipping Hasler are raced by breeders Fiona and Marty Hallinan, who have been Magri's most prolific clients for several years.

And while Saturday was a rare "winless" Wentworth Park night for leading trainer Minnie Finn, her brother Bradley Barnes took out a 520m fifth grade in 30.01 with Noah Keeping.
