Taw Galaxy, who took out the group three Magic Maiden at Wentworth Park on April 12, has earned a crack at the group one Vic Peters Classic with his win at headquarters on Saturday night.

Taw Galaxy broke 30sec for the first time when he easily won a 520m fifth grade in 29.92 and trainer Andrew Rowe said later: "I've had the Vic Peters in mind for him for a while.

"Tonight's race was a fifth grade heat for dogs and the final is next Saturday at Wentworth Park, with the Vic Peters heats the following week, June 28.''

The other fifth grade heat for male greyhounds was taken out in impressive fashion by the Michelle Sultana-trained Gus The Jet, who grabbed the lead approaching the first turn and won by three lengths in 29.87.

Like Taw Galaxy, Gus The Jet is eligible for the age restricted Vic Peters Classic and his dashing first-up Wentworth Park victory on Saturday could convince his connections that he is worthy of an entry into that race.

Dynamic Drummer took 30.13 to win his 520m fifth grade on Saturday but his run was outstanding, as he was midfield on the back straight and still back in fourth spot approaching the home bend.

After the race trainer Ruth King said: "It was a good effort because Dynamic Drummer stumbled coming out of the boxes.

"But he has learned to race cleverly and seems to pick out where he is going to make a run.

"That's why he seldom runs into dead-ends when he is coming from behind.

"Dynamic Drummer is strong at the end of 520m but 600m is about as far as he wants to go, he has been placed over that trip at Dapto, but I doubt he will become stayer.''

Fascinate Kath scored her first Wentworth Park win after seven placings from 11 starts at the track in a 520m fifth grade heat for bitches on Saturday night.

Fascinate Kath, owned and trained by her breeder Noelene Holloway, began brilliantly from box two and led throughout in a personal best 30.00.

"Although she had won just once in 23 starts before tonight, Fascinate Kath has always possessed a lot of ability,'' Noelene Holloway said.

"It was just a matter of her putting it all together.

"I bred Fascinate Kath from Funky Portelli, a bitch I purchased from Kristy Sultana, the owner-trainer of Flying Ricciardo.''

Joe Scerri, whose top class stayer Ritza Piper was a group one winner earning $425,000 with 20 wins, has another promising greyhound, this time a sprinter, in Rosa Marie.

She won in a fast 29.60 at Wentworth Park on June 5 and on Saturday night put in a near repeat performance, leading throughout to win a 520m fifth grade in 29.64.

Scerri trained Ritza Piper for Frank Gatt, the father of leading trainer Mark Gatt, and Rosa Marie is a daughter of Ritza Rachelle, who won seven races for the Frank Gatt-Joe Scerri combination.

Saturday's top grade 520m event was won at box rise when the Craig Chappelow-trained Overflow Jill jumped clear of her rivals and led all the way in 29.74.

A week earlier Overflow Jill had posted a flying first split of 5.27 before winning in 29.67, and she produced another scintillating opening section on Saturday, clocking 5.31.

Fastest time on Saturday was 29.63, shared by Epic Story, who gave trainer David Smith a double after taking an early lead and winning a 520m fifth grade, and by the Patricia Chaker-trained Farmor Order, who wasn't headed in landing a Masters race over the same journey.

David Smith had won earlier with Looking Pristine, who led all the way to win another grade five in 29.76.

Smith trains Epic Story and Looking Pristine for breeder Michael Jones, who raced Ice Cream Story and Look Fancy Nancy, the mothers of his winners on Saturday.
