There wasn't a more impressive heat winner than the Steve Fitch-trained Cumbria Jack in the Group One Brisbane Cup series on Thursday, and on Saturday night, the Nowra trainer took out another pair of Group One heats at Wentworth Park.

Cumbria Benny, a litter brother to Cumbria Jack, won his heat of the Ladbrokes Vic Peters Classic while Eriza Sparkles was fastest qualifier for next Saturday's Ladbrokes Peter Mosman Opal.

Eriza Sparkles began brilliantly from box five to lead throughout in heat one, clocking 29.48 and posting dazzling second and third splits of 13.59 and 17.69.

She had led all the way at her Wentworth Park debut a week earlier in 29.71 but faded slightly in the run home.

After Saturday's win Steve Fitch said: "I knew she would get to the line better tonight because last week she was having her first 520m test.

"This bitch has been the perfect greyhound from day one, she has never put a foot wrong.

"When I broke in Cumbria Jack he was the fastest I had educated, but Eriza Sparkles broke in a touch quicker.''

Coast Rig led throughout from box seven to win her heat of the Opal for trainer Patricia Chaker in 29.56, while Summer Quinn, the odds-on favourite, overcame a moderate getaway to win her heat in 29.70.

She defeated Ginny's Run, who gave Chaker two qualifiers in next Saturday's $75,000 to the winner.

Also gaining two finalists was Jason Magri, whose bitch Canya Sapphire chased home Eriza Sparkles, while kennelmate Reborn Gypsy finished third to Coast Rig and Zipping Chetty.

Zipping Chetty had no luck and her second placing presented trainer Courtney Barnes with two Opal finalists, after Zipping Ariel was the minor placegetter in Summer Quinn's heat.

Jason Magri rates Canya Sapphire his main prospect in the Opal final, commenting: "She has drawn nicely in box two and from there she has a good chance of being the pacemaker.

"When she finished second to Eriza Sparkles tonight, Canya Sapphire was having her first 500 since racing at Dubbo on May 10 so she can improve.

"Reborn Gypsy has a big future but she is still learning, although improving all the time.''

Magri also had the fastest qualifier for Saturday night's $75,000 to the winner Vic Peters Classic with Robert Keeping taking the lead going through the pen to beat early pacemaker, Victoria's Nigel Devere, by four lengths in 29.60.

The Jodie Lord-trained Destroying won his heat after leading all the way from box one, clocking 29.67 in beating Nigel Devere's litter brother and kennelmate Neo Devere by four lengths.

The win continued Destroying's love affair with Wentworth Park, as the dog has now had eight starts at the track for six wins, a second and a third.

Cumbria Jack's litter brother Cumbria Benny completed a huge week for owner-trainer-breeder Steve Fitch when he bounced in front from box one and took out his heat of the Classic 29.71.

Cumbria Benny, who Fitch has always rated only slightly inferior to Cumbria Jack, won by two lengths from the Jason Magri-trained Allan Keeping, a litter brother to Robert Keeping.

Allan Keeping's run was full of merit as he bungled the start from box one.

The Ruth King-trained Suribachi emerged as one of the most promising stayers in training after winning over 720m on Saturday night in a smart 41.74.

Having only her second 720m test, Suribachi pushed pacemaker Starfire Tears out of the way going through the pen to lead on the back straight before scoring by three lengths.

She is raced by Singleton coal miner Daniel Eveleigh, who bred Suribachi from his brood bitch Iwo Jima.

After the race Suribachi's trainer Ruth King said: "I think this bitch thrives in a small kennel like mine.

"I only have six in work and Suribachi is always looking for me, she really responds to personal attention.''
