Beer Money, who finished third to final winner Badger's Beast in a semi-final of the Grafton Thunderbolt on June 15, has been part of successive winning doubles for trainer Tony Desira within the past week.

Beer Money and Almighty Wrath scored for Desira at Taree on July 2 and on Tuesday night the same dog joined kennelmate White Earner in the winner's circle at Gosford.

In Tuesday's 388m sprint at Gosford, Beer Money exploded from box seven and led all the way for an easy win, clocking a flying 22.04 and taking his record to 11 wins from 26 appearances.

Among the classy short-course greyhounds left in Beer Money's wake were Maura Figgis, She's Promising and Johnny Red.

Desira, who has been manager of two poultry farms for the past decade, trains his team of 12 greyhounds on 11ha at Greta, in the Hunter Valley.

"I got my first greyhound, Ruby Express, in 1978 and ran a lot of city placings with Jane Reaction behind the 2009 NSW Greyhound of the Year Take The Kitty at Wentworth Park.

"A daughter of Jane Reaction, called Kate's Reaction, gave me my first Wenty winner in July, 2014.

"In 2021 I won a couple of 720m races at Wentworth Park with Stent, who was owned by a Queenslander, and it was through him that Nick Cutri, a Queensland-based breeder, asked me to train Beer Money.

"Nick had formed a syndicate to race Beer Money, but when he was educated all the praise was heaped on his litter brother Rocky Burrow."

"It wasn't long before I realised Beer Money was going to be a far better proposition than his brother, who has won a maiden at Muswellbrook but is no longer in my kennels.

"I soon worked out that the reason Beer Money did not get anyone too excited at the breaking in stage was because he was extremely immature.

"When I began training him he was a bit of a ratbag, he wouldn't do anything I wanted and would jump around, biting at his tail, and carrying on like a silly puppy.

"But patience is the name of the game and although Beer Money has not won beyond 400m at The Gardens, I have not given up hope that he will eventually get 520m.

"He is not two-and-a-half years old yet and has been slow to mature and develop.

"Beer Money thrives on free galloping up and down a couple of 80m long straight tracks l have on my property.

"From the word go I told his owners to be patient, because I am an 'old school' trainer who likes to take his time with his dogs and let them do things their way too.

"When you are training greyhounds, it is no secret that the work and care you put into them is what you get out of them on the racetrack.''
