Kayla Ollerton's faith in her bitch Little Brookie's ability has been rewarded three-fold with that greyhound's daughter Raging Saige notching her third Wentworth Park win for the Scone trainer on Saturday night.

Raging Saige gave Ollerton her first Wentworth Park winner on April 3 and won again last week before completing the hat-trick of wins by leading throughout in a personal best 520m time of 29.78 on Saturday.

Ollerton explained: "My bitch Little Brookie finished third at her first race, at Gosford on July 21, 2020, but then took a tumble there a week later.

"When she raced again at Gosford three months later she fell again and after that she was frightened to race in a field.

"She would run like the wind in trials, she could clock 29.50 at Wentworth Park, but as soon as she was with other dogs she was too timid to race because of the two falls she had suffered.

"So my partner Jason Tolmie and I mated her with Aussie Infrared and Raging Saige is from her first litter.

"Little Brookie very well bred, she is by Fernando Bale from the outstanding producer Brook's Doll, so I was always keen to breed from her.

"I wasn't sure if Raging Saige was up to Wentworth Park standard so started her off at a Thursday meeting and she won.

"Then after she showed strength winning over 600m at The Gardens on July 5 I put her in again at Wenty a week later on a Saturday night and she won, and now she has won for me again.''

Saturday's "match races" - between Suribachi and Zig Zag Man over 720m and the clash of Taormina and Honk Honk over 520m - went to script.

Taormina began brilliantly and led all the way to record her fifth straight Wentworth Park win in a month, stopping the clock at 29.37, .04sec inside her previous fastest figures.

Honk Honk was far from disgraced as she dwelt at the start before finishing second, four lengths from the winner.

Suribachi jumped in front and led all the way to beat Zig Zag Man by two lengths in 41.97, taking her Wentworth Park 720m record to two wins and two placings from four starts.

After the race trainer Ruth King said: "When Zig Zag Man tackled her coming to the home turn my bitch kicked again.

"I think Suribachi has the makings of a really good stayer because she finds something extra when challenged and that is a positive sign for a long distance greyhound.

"Suribachi thrives in my kennels because I have only a small team in work.

"She loves being molly-coddled and fussed over and she probably would not receive that sort of treatment in a big training operation.''

Trainer Syd Swain was not disappointed by Zig Zag Man's second placing, exclaiming after the race: "I expected him to be the early leader and he came out last!

"I will probably give him a couple more middle distance races before putting him over 720m at Wentworth Park again.''

After Ritza Duane led throughout to beat his kennelmate Go Jimmy in a slick 29.63 on Saturday, trainer Mark Gatt said: "There is nothing between them but Ritza Duane nailed the start tonight and that made all the difference.

"They have now each won seven races at Wentworth Park but Ritza Duane prevailed tonight because he began so well while Go Jimmy came from midfield early.''

Gatt completed a winning double when the much improved front runner Forged Iron led throughout in 29.73.

Wincey Bale, who scored a win and a second in 720m races at Wentworth Park last month, showed her versatility by storming home to win in 30.05 over 520m on Saturday.

Her trainer Ike McCorkindale made it two winners from two starters at WP on Saturday night when Wincey Bale's kennelmate Zadie Bale came from last early and shrugged off being hampered leaving the back straight to win the final event in 29.91.
