Straight track specialist Logie Magic, who is off to Queensland on August 30 to contest the National Straight Track Championship at The Q, has been a bargain for his connections through being produced by a bitch who cost them just $1,500.

Trained by Carole Eaton for her husband Jeff, Logie Magic had won six races in succession, all in the best time of the day over 324m at Richmond, before being beaten a length by Gets Late Early in the NSW Straight Track Championship final over that course on Thursday.

Logie Magic had no luck in that race, as he dwelt at the start and was checked by the winner when she veered towards the right of the track from her box one draw.

Owner Jeff Eaton said: "He sometimes gets unbalanced as he jumps and Logie Magic came out on the wrong foot in Thursday.

"After he won around the circle at The Gardens and Gosford in fast times Logie Magic had a fall and after that he kept tearing muscles on two turn tracks.

"Then, when he trialled 18.70 and 18.80 up our local Redhead straight trial track, Carole and I decided to restrict him to racing on that type of circuit at Richmond.

"Since concentrating on the Richmond straight with him Logie Magic has had 19 starts for 13 wins and three placings."

"All up he has won 16 races and earned over $30,000 so he has done a wonderful job for us, especially considering his mother, Zipping Oaks, cost me only $1500 as a performed race bitch.

"She had won a couple of small races when our son Scott noticed she was available and urged me to buy her.

"He pointed out that even if Zipping Oaks was a failure on the racetrack, she could be a worthwhile purchase from a breeding viewpoint."

"She was bred in the purple as her dam was Marty Hallinan and Jason Mackay's outstanding bitch Zipping Willow.'' (Zipping Willow, a NSW Greyhound of the Year finalist, won 34 of 53 races including the group 3 Canberra Cup along with the group 3 Ladies Bracelet, and in 2014 won 21 from 30 starts, among them 13 victories at Wentworth Park.)

"But Zipping Oaks still managed to win $22,000 prizemoney for me and her second and final litter, sired by Aussie Infrared, has been excellent.

"Apart from Logie Magic, they include Miss Mila, Red Ball Rocket and Oakee Bear, who have won more than $113,000 between them.''
