Blake Moroney is only a part-time greyhound trainer, but had easily his most successful day on Saturday when he took his entire team of six to The Gardens and Taree and came home with five winners and a second placegetter.

The 33-year-old Moroney won 600m races at The Gardens with Blazing Raso and Blazing Prince along with a 400m event with Maura Figgis.

He capped a remarkable day by also landing a double at Taree, scoring with Blazing Blue over 525m and with Inner West over 300m.

"I've had trebles previously but Saturday was the first time I've won five races,'' Moroney said.

"I had a few bets, mostly multi combinations, but the biggest wager I had was on Blazing Bye, the one who was beaten!

"She is the most promising youngster in my kennels but she ran into a red hot dog trained by Jason Mackay at The Gardens.

"Jason's dog Ballyneale Bolt blitzed us, running 29.14 for the 515m, not far outside the record of 28.96.''

Moroney is the nephew of highly successful Northern Rivers trainer Mark Moroney, and learned about training greyhounds from his late father Todd Moroney.

"After dad passed away I helped Mark with his dogs before taking out my own licence when I was 19.

"Because I work full-time with Central Coast Council, I haven't time to have too many dogs, which is why the half dozen I raced on Saturday is my entire team.

"Blazing Raso and Maura Figgis, who have each won 17 races and earned a total of $97,000 are the best at this stage.''

Jason Mackay has a massive opinion of Ballyneale Bolt, the greyhound who prevented Moroney from winning six races.

"Ballyneale Bolt is a very exciting prospect,'' Mackay said.

"Saturday was the first time he had been out of the 515m boxes at The Gardens and he bombed the start and then bumped into Blake's greyhound at the first turn before putting a dozen lengths on the field.

"When they put the time up, just outside the record, I wasn't surprised."

"I trained a fast dog called Zipping Garth in 2019 and he once clocked 24.16 in a post-to-post hit-out at The Gardens, the quickest ever run.

"But recently Ballyneale Bolt went over the same trip and recorded 23.95, making him what I believe to be the only dog to get under 24 seconds.

"He is owned by a long-time mate of mine Billy Phelan, who sent him to me as an unraced young dog.

"Ballyneale Bolt was a rocket from the first time I galloped him.

"He will get to Wentworth Park eventually but he is still learning and at only 21 months old has a big future.''
