Bulli Battle For The Ages Almost Here

The 2026 Group 2 Bulli Gold Cup is being hailed as one of the best final fields ever assembled. Here’s a full preview of the $40,000 decider:

Taw Major | Deb Rowe
The son of Wow x Wayang Angel was pretty good in the heats, running second to Eriza Sparkles in a time of 26.02.

That was his first go out of the 472m boxes at Bulli and just his third run back from a two-and-a-half-month break.

He’s been sneaky consistent during his career with top three finishes in 12 of his last 13 starts and 22 cheques from 30 outings.

His red box stats are handy - a win and two seconds from three starts – and he’s a strong dog with a couple of handy 600m starts on his resume from last year.

Foreign Capital | Vic Sultana
One of two finalists for Vic Sultana and he does have a good record at Bulli with six starts producing three wins and a couple of runner-up finishes.

He took out the Jimmy Jenkins Memorial at the track in 2024 and the time of 26.00 jumped off the page for a 5th grade feature at the time, but that was 18-months ago.

His heat time of 26.12 won't win the race and he'd need to find his early zip of 2024 (9.85 to the first mark) to feature in the finish. He's the oldest dog in the field and justifiably going around at a big price.

Black Myth Wave | Vic Sultana
Was in great form late last year with a Maitland Cup win in December and then backed it up with a dominate Gosford Cup heat win in January.

Hasn’t set the world on fire in his five runs since with only one placing while running moderate times at Bulli and Wentworth Park.

His PB of 26.11 is the slowest in the field and with so much pace in the race, particularly with Cumbria Jack directly outside him, I can’t see a way he leads and because of that, I don’t think he can win.

Cumbria Jack | Steve Fitch
Wow…what a return.

Steve Fitch never seemed confident heading into the heats with his kennel super star after he picked up a few niggles in the lead up to the heats.

Hadn’t had a race start since The Phoenix before Christmas yet he still came out and broke the track record of Million Dollar Chase champion, Power And Glory.

He did that off the back of a very smart first section (9.85) and he made Gold Force look slow as he surged away through the bend.

Pulls Box 4 with unreliable beginners either side (and biggest rivals drawn outside him), so as long as he’s pulled up OK following his first run in seven weeks, he deserves favouritism.

Gold Force | Denice Warren
He’d be the fairytale story if he could finally realise his enormous potential and rip off a feature race for connections.

Denice Warren has openly talked about her husband Errol’s health battles and this greyhound has been a great outlet for her in her downtime.

He was beaten fairly and squarely last week by a red-hot Cumbria Jack but his time of 26.06 was three lengths outside the 25.85 effort he produced two weeks earlier.

The kicker with him – he needs luck in running.

He’s a massive lump of a dog at 39kg so Box 5 puts him in the firing line, but there is a world where Cumbria Jack outjumps him and Trio Of Clowns moves up the track a bit to give him some room.

If he gets a chance to build the revs, he can match it with any dog in this field.

Trio Of Clowns | Sam Sultana
Is an interesting runner in a stacked final.

You’re getting a massive price for a dog that won the Million Dollar Chase regional final at Bulli in September and beat the likes of Power And Glory and Jungle Johnny in the process.

He ran 25.88 that night and a time like that would put him right in the finish if he could replicate it.

Could only muster 26.30 last week but did pretty well to overcome some early jostling to qualify behind Jungle Johnny.

No wins since November 22 is a worry but he’s never been $51 in his racing life. He’s normally pretty reliable early but he does like to take a step or two to the right so does he get in the way of Eriza Sparkles?

Eriza Sparkles | Steve Fitch
She’s one of the best bitches in the country right now and was sublime in the heats, winning in a time of 25.76.

That time would have broken Power And Glory’s old track record (but Cumbria Jack went faster on heat night) and she seems to back to her best after a two-month break over the Christmas period.

2025 was a bumper year for her with four-time Group 1 final appearances, and she has earned over $328,000 in prizemoney from just 22 starts.

Trainer Steve Fitch alluded to the fact she might prefer being boxed out wide, but if Trio Of Clowns takes a step right of out the boxes like he sometimes does, it could cause her some trouble.

Jungle Johnny | Mark Gatt

Hard to think ‘Johnny’ was outshone last week by not just one, but two dogs on the same night he ran a length outside a Power And Glory track record.

The Gatt camp won’t mind that because now he goes into the final as the second elect instead of a dominate favourite like he has in every start so far this year.

The draw is a little bit sticky but if Eriza Sparkles gets out and goes, he could get dragged right into the contest. If that doesn’t happen, he showed great field sense last week to bide his time before slicing down on to the fence and storming away.

I like the programming for him recently with Team Gatt keeping him to the sprint trips and he looks cherry ripe to run well on Friday.
