Cumbria Jack remains on target for the Wheeler Kennels Golden Easter Egg heats on March 28 with a slashing trial at Wentworth Park leading up to Saturday night's top grade 520m race there.

Cumbria Jack, who won the Richmond Derby final on February 27, will exit box eight on Saturday, the draw he had when he broke the Richmond 520m record on February 20.

Steve Fitch's outstanding speedster has had seven starts wearing the pink rug for five wins and two placings.

"I gave him a post-to-post hit-out at WP on Monday and Cumbria Jack clocked 23.66,'' trainer Fitch said.

"Obviously I was happy with those figures.

"At the same time his litter sister Cumbria Chrissy, who won the Richmond Oaks final on February 27, also trialled extra well last Monday.

"She went 23.87 in a post-to-post run and on times was only a length behind Cumbria Jack to the back straight.

"Cumbria Chrissy has box six against Jack on Saturday but she has won from that draw so will keep Jack on his toes.''

Saturday's meeting features five heats of the group three New Sensation, which will mark the first WP appearance of boom youngster Showman Baz.

The John Smart-owned, trained and bred Showman Baz, just 21 month old, has box seven in heat two.

Showman Baz, who has won three of five provincial outings, is from the first litter whelped by Smart's former good race bitch Esme Watson.

Esme Watson, who won 14 races and earned just on $88,000, is a litter sister to Smart's former crackerjack all distance performer Showman Jack.

Showman Jack's 17 wins reaped over $226,000 in stakes but Smart paid his latest youngster the ultimate compliment when he declared he had even greater potential.

"Showman Baz is better than Showman Jack was at the same age,'' Smart said.

"I gave him a hand-slip at WP on Monday and he went enormous, with good judges assuring me they don't go any faster.

"But in the New Sensation Showman Baz is giving away experience and as much as six months in age to most of his rivals.

"And while dogs sometimes take a run or two to reach their peak around Wentworth Park, I certainly could not be happier with him than I am right now.''

Hardest for Showman Baz to beat on Saturday are likely to be Magic Bandit and Before The Dawn, who have won 11 races at WP.

Magic Bandit, who has box one, has won six races at WP and clocked 29.50 while Before The Dawn's five successes include a personal best time of 29.62.

Magic Bandit's box one victories include success in the group one National Futurity at WP in January.

King Of Gods, the unlucky runner in the group one National Derby at WP on January 31, should win heat five of the New Sensation after drawing box one.

In the Derby final King Of Gods was checked at the first corner when in a prominent position and put up an outstanding performance to finish third, just over two lengths behind the winner, Ritza Tears.

King Of Gods has had only two starts since the Derby but won over 450m at Grafton in the fastest time of the meeting on March 8 while wearing the red rug.

Brax Keeping will contest one of Saturday's minor fifth grade races but should start the meeting well for punters after drawing box one in the opening event.

Brax Keeping's quickest WP figures of 29.68 are more than three lengths better than the best Wenty times of any of his rivals on Saturday night.
