Impress Moana was an easy winner in a smart 29.63 at Wentworth Park last Saturday but her kennelmate Federal Sniper, who will make his debut there this week, had trialed three lengths faster at the track.
Federal Sniper has box one in Saturday's We Stand With Tasmania 520m fifth grade and goes into the race with a marvelous record of 14 wins and three seconds from 18 starts.
Trainer Jason Mackay said, "Federal Sniper has a nice draw and although he hasn't raced there, he has had a couple of looks at Wentworth Park.”
"He has gone well both times and in one of his trials he went the equivalent of three lengths quicker than my bitch Impress Moana, who came out and won from box two at Wentworth Park last week.''
Impress Moana drew inside for her easy Wentworth Park win last Saturday but Jason Mackay is happy seeing her in box four in this week's Lionel Nye Memorial, a 520m fifth grade.
"It sounds crazy, but I believe Impress Moana is best suited drawn in the middle of the track, not on the rails and not on the extreme outside'' Mackay said.
"She pulled up well after last week's win so there is no reason why she can't get the money again.”
Urban Biscuit bungled the start completely before finishing second in her heat at Wentworth Park on August 20 and is drawn to make amends in Saturday night's Arthur Collier Memorial Final over 520m.
In the heats Bentley Red led all the way from box three to post the fastest qualifying time of 29.62, while Urban Biscuit came from last to be beaten just over two lengths.
Freight Express, who set a scorching pace when runner-up behind Ritza Tears in the group one National Derby final at Wenworth Park on January 31, makes his first Wentworth Park appearance for new trainer Jodie Lord on Saturday night.
Freight Express is well drawn in box eight after winning each of two starts for his new trainer, over 324m up the Richmond straight and 440m at Goulburn.
Jodie Lord's husband Andy Lord said, "Freight Express is not yet real strong at the finish.”
"He has a chance if he can ping to the lead and pinch a big break on his rivals on Saturday, but I think he will be all the better with another run or two at Wenty under his belt.''
David Smith trained four of the 11 winners at Wentworth Park last Saturday and has several prospects again this week.
His Gosford Goldmine winner Swift Wind is not badly drawn in box eight against Impress Moana, but his best chance could be the ideally placed Rugged Ethics, who will wear the pink rug in the 520m fifth grade William Bates Memorial.
Rugged Ethics, a minor placegetter from unsuitable boxes at Gosford at his past two appearances, will be at a good price and posted his best Wentworth Park time of 29.79 out of box eight in February.
