Ladbrokes Racing Club (LRC) have bolstered their considerable stocks with the acquisition of a superbly bred pup by the great Fernando Bale and champion racer She's A Pearl.
The regally bred female is in training with Andy Lord who guided the great She's A Pearl for the majority of her decorated career which netted 40 race wins and $1.8 million in prize money, headlined by her Golden Easter Egg-Million Dollar Chase heroics in 2022.
A graduate of the 2024 GRNSW Puppy Auction, the 16-month-old unnamed pup will venture to Wentworth Park on Thursday night to trial for the first time, with Lord extremely happy with the progression of both herself and the litter in general.
"They've got me really excited – all five of them," Lord declared about the litter which set a sale topping record at last year's Puppy Auction.
"I decided not to send these pups away for education and instead did everything here at home and they've blown me away.
"At 12 months and three weeks I took them to Goulburn for the first time and out of the 350m boxes four of them went 20.20, 20.14, 20.10 and 20.08.
"And they did that off just three runs up my straight. A dog like Nangar Larry will run 15.60 up my straight and the slowest of these pups went 15.80 and one went 15.44.
"Everything I throw their way they just handle. Beautifully natured pups, great attitudes."
Now at 16 months of age, Lord ramps up their progression on Thursday night with a trial under lights at Wentworth Park, the scene of their mother's career defining highlights.
"It's the next step, everything at the moment is a learning curve for them," Lord added.
"You see a lot of champion bitches sometimes not live up to it in the breeding barn but at the moment I couldn't be happier with how these pups are going.
"But there's a long way to go."
Lord said he's excited to have Ladbrokes on board in racing one of She's A Pearl's offspring.
"They are huge supporters of the industry so here's hoping they have a great ride with this girl," Lord added.
"I picked this girl out for them for a few reasons. I really like her attitude. She's all business."
The acquisition continues the rapid ascension of Ladbrokes Racing Club in greyhound racing, enjoying significant success in its infancy.
“We've had a lot of luck with the greyhound side of the Ladbrokes Racing Club, including our first big slot race win in partnership with Schillaci in the 2023 The Phoenix and then with Hector Fawley in the 2024 The Sandgroper," said Ryan Stanaway – Ladbrokes GM Ownership & Participation.
"We are very excited to see what this youngster can do.
“It was a great opportunity to team-up with Andy and one of the best bred youngsters you'd ever see. If Andy's happy, then we're starting to get excited.
“We're going to know a lot more in the next few weeks, but things sound really promising so far.”
She's A Pearl has a second litter on the ground to Irish sensation One Time Only.
