Can Maggie Get First Wenty Win?

Maggie's Ethics is poised to be rewarded for her remarkable consistency by notching her first Wentworth Park win on Saturday night.

Trained by Rod Morley for leading owner-breeder David Smith, Maggie's Ethics has had five seconds and two thirds from nine Wentworth Park appearances.

But she gets her chance to break through despite drawing awkwardly in box five in Saturday's opening race, the NSW GBOTA Welcome Stakes, a 520m fifth grade.

An unexpected error occurred.

At her most recent outing, Maggie's Ethics came from last to be runner-up, beaten less than a length, by SA visitor Time To Fire at Wentworth Park last Saturday.

"She should have won that race because she got away okay from box two but the dog in box three headed for the rails and checked her,'' Morley said.

"When that happened Maggie's Ethics was knocked back to last.

"Although her best Wentworth Park figures are 30.12 I have no doubt she can easily break 30sec with a clear run.

"In a 520m race at Nowra on March 31 Maggie's Ethics got bumped early and came from behind to be a close third to a very good dog in Cumbria Jack.

"And when she did, Maggie's Ethics still covered the distance in a very smart 29.66.

"Saturday's race looks winnable for my bitch and she only has to jump reasonably well to go close to getting her first Wenty win.''

Leading trainer Jason Magri has bright prospects of landing a double on Saturday night with two greyhounds who have yet to win in town.

Zipping Hilda, unplaced at her sole Wentworth Park outing, has box two for Magri in the Sarkis Barakat Cup, a 520m fifth grade, while Robert Keeping, also down the course at his only Wenty appearance, has drawn eight in the Ancu's Fast & Flurrious Stakes, another 520m fifth grade.

Jason Magri said: "Zipping Hilda has had boxes six, seven and eight at her past three starts for a 401m placing at Richmond and a last start 520m win there but I still prefer her drawn inside."

An unexpected error occurred.

"If she jumps cleanly, I think she can lead this field and if she does I expect her to win, although his opponents include Tony Pagano's dog Simply The Best, who ran a big race when second at Wentworth Park last Saturday.

"I think Robert Keeping will be able handle his outside draw."

An unexpected error occurred.

"Early in his career he wanted to be boxed inside but he is now beginning to learn how to cope with wide alleys.

"Robert Keeping has just been a dog slow to mature but there has never been any doubt about his ability.''

Robert Keeping has won six of his 10 races on the provincial circuit and will be chasing a winning hat-trick on Saturday night.

Zipping Kimble, bought for only $9000 by owner-trainer Patricia Chaker, could give her new mentor a Wentworth Park win in Saturday night's Sponsor a Race @Wenty 520m fifth grade.

Zipping Kimble won three races at Wentworth Park for his previous trainer Sam Sultana, and Patricia said: "Sam told me when I got the dog that he goes best from outside boxes.

"He has box six on Saturday night so that should suit him.

"Zipping Kimble has only missed a place once since I bought him and I have got my money back from buying him already.

"His second placing at Gosford on Tuesday was a big run, especially as another dog was making a heck of a racket when they were being placed in the starting boxes.

"Zipping Kimble is likes to be kidded to and is a quiet sort of dog so I reckon the noise just before the start might have put him off a bit.''

An unexpected error occurred.
