Trainer Jason Magri believed Robert Keeping was capable of clocking 29.60 for the Wentworth Park 520m trip so was pleasantly surprised when the 25 months old youngster led all the way in a blistering 29.38 on Saturday night.
Robert Keeping scored his seventh win in a dozen starts when he took out his fifth grade race by six lengths, posting sizzling middle splits of 13.64 and 17.69.
"He is a quick dog and I thought he could get down to 29.60,'' Magri said after the race.
"But Robert Keeping got the start right and showed what he can really do.''
Robert Keeping gave Magri a winning double as Zipping Hilda had led throughout to win an earlier 520m fifth grade in a slick 29.77.
It was Zipping Hilda's fourth win in just six starts but Magri said he is unlikely to nominate her for next Saturday night's heats of the group 3 Ladies Bracelet.
"I will try and win a couple more low grade Wenty races with her rather than step her up into the Bracelet series,'' Magri said.
"Earlier in her career Zipping Hilda wasn't very strong but she has acquired stamina as she has got older so she has a future.''
Shannon Latimer has been training greyhounds for just 12 months but he landed his second Wentworth Park win with giveaway My Girl Mona on Saturday night.
My Girl Mona led all the way to win a 520m fifth grade in a moderate 30.39, taking her tally for Latimer to four wins and seven placings.
"A trainer in Victoria had her but he got out of dogs and he gave her to me as a gift,'' Latimer said.
"I own a pressure cleaning business but have handed over the running of that to my staff so I can have more time with the greyhounds.
"I live fairly close to leading trainer Mark Gatt and he is always willing to give me adivce and help me with my dogs.
"My Girl Mona is no world beater as you can see by the time she ran tonight but she is a good beginner who can lead in her races.''
West Rock Casey, who was sidelined for several weeks after dislocating a toe, bounced back in emphatic fashion to run down Sinaloa Girl in a fourth and fifth grade on Saturday night.
A litter brother and kennelmate of top class stayer Late Night News, West Rock Casey made full use of his box seven draw and snatched the lead from Sinaloa Girl on the home turn to win by a length in 29.68.
Trainer Caroline Hughes said later: "He loves being drawn wide, especially at Wenty.
"West Rock Casey has been trialling better than ever since returning from his toe injury but I wasn't confident tonight because it looked to be a very hard race.''
Summer Quinn produced a slashing trial for Saturday night's heats of the Ladies Bracelet with a flying 29.49 all the way win, her third in succession at Wentworth Park, in a 520m fifth grade.
Trained by Peter Lagogiane for Victorian owner George Farrugia, Summer Quinn began brilliantly from box three and scored by 10 lengths from Canya Be Lucky.
Sammy Ethan notched his 18th Wentworth Park win on Saturday night when he zipped past early leader My Monroe to easily win the top grade 520m event in 29.76 for owner John Fitzgerald and trainer Mark Gatt.
Sammy Ethan is a Wentworth Park specialist, not surprising considering all but one of his 60 races have been at headquarters.
Other quick wins on Saturday night were posted by the Peter Rodgers trained Classic Ethics in 29.58 and Watchmaker, from Neil Staines' kennels, in 29.57.
Classic Ethics, a notoriously slow beginner, was last away from box three but railed into fourth position on the back straight and strode to the lead approaching the home bend to score by three lengths.
