Unleash In Miami has won over 520m at Wentworth Park in a flying 29.53 but is being restricted to short course races as trainer Peter Sims prepares him for the $40,000 to the winner Ladbrokes Thunderbolt at Grafton on June 21.
Last Friday at Goulburn, Unleash In Miami led throughout on a wet track to beat a class field in 19.48, just .15sec outside track record figures.
It was the dog's 18th win in 28 starts and trainer Peter Sims explained: "Garry Block, his owner, is keen to see him contest the Thunderbolt so I am setting Unleash In Miami for the 350m heats at Goulburn on June 6.
"Unleash In Miami is a very quick dog when he gets the start right, and is especially good from boxes one or eight.
"But he can be a bit hit and miss from middle draws.''
After a further round of heats at Wagga, Bulli, Gosford, Richmond, Dubbo, The Gardens and Grafton, semi-finals of the Thunderbolt will be held at Grafton on June 15 with the final there six days later.
Shaun Evans usually breeds his own racers to train with his wife Kayla Jane Coleman, but when they had nothing coming through early last year he bought six pups from a litter whelped by Nangar Molly.
Puerile, a black dog pup from the litter sired by Where's Pedro, won at Wentworth Park on May 15 and last Thursday his kennelmate and brother This Is Why took out a 520m fifth grade there.
This Is Why went into the Wentworth Park race after an outstanding debut win at Dapto on May 8, and will be out to maintain his unbeaten record when he contests a one to two wins fifth grade at headquarters this Thursday night.
"Jason Lymbery, who raced Nangar Molly, a winner of nine from 24 starts, bred the litter and advertised them for sale,'' Evans recalled.
"I liked the look of them and because they were extremely well priced I bought a half dozen of them.
"This Is Why only clocked 30.16 when he won at Wentworth Park last Thursday but the race was run in driving rain and his first up win at Dapto was a fantastic performance.
"He is a big dog and was 37.2kg at Dapto but had trimmed down to 36.6 at Wenty last Thursday and that's about where I want him to be.
"These pups are only babies, they don't turn two until mid October, so they have a future.''
This Is Why's Dapto win was especially impressive as he collided soon after the start, and came from last, overcoming a first turn check, to win running away.
Young Star, the exciting youngster who found plenty of trouble when fourth from his awkward box four draw in a heat of the Nowra Puppy Classic on April 20, is back in work.
The Darryl Thomas-trained Young Star went into the Nowra race with three wins from four starts, comprising blistering 22.08 and 24.78 400m and 450m performances at Maitland and a flying 29.57 520m effort at Wentworth Park.
The news is not so good for his kennelmate Rinsed The Lot, who has not raced since October.
Rinsed The Lot resumed with a slick 19.07 clearance trial over 340m at Bulli on May 13 but has gone amiss again and the dog, who, like Young Star, is part-owned by group one winning jockey Brenton Avdulla, has had to be spelled.
Rinsed The Lot is a winner of eight from 12 races, including a 29.41 Wentworth Park 520m win.
