The 2025 Ladbrokes Muswellbrook Cup will not be run next Friday, November 7, instead being moved to March or April next year.
The decision from Greyhound Racing NSW comes following the abandonment of Thursday’s race meeting at Muswellbrook due to track issues, which consequently saw the two Cup heats unable to be run.
While an exact date in the calendar is yet to be determined, the plan will be for the Cup to be staged in the Autumn.
Yesterday’s meeting was abandoned following the discovery of a number of stopper pad injuries to runners in the first three events. While track staff confirmed that the starting mats were irrigated prior to the running of each race and the catching pen sufficiently watered a full investigation into the track performance at yesterday’s meeting is being conducted.
The race meeting scheduled for Muswellbrook on November 7 has been abandoned and a new meeting will be created at the Ladbrokes Gardens with nominations closing Tuesday 4 November 2025 at 9.00am.
Two heats of the maiden event were run yesterday and the prizemoney for that final will be split between the eight greyhounds which qualified. Two of four heats of the fifth grade series were also run. The first two in the two events which were run, plus two balloted from each of the other two heats, will split the prizemoney for that final.
The next meeting following the work on the Muswellbrook track will be held on Saturday, November 15.
GRNSW understands the disappointment of all trainers chasing the Cup, but the safety and welfare of the greyhounds is the number one priority, and bringing the track to its optimum condition is the first task for GRNSW.
