Bluff Is Back At Headquarters

Single Bluff has been unplaced in each of two Wentworth Park starts but his recent provincial form and an ideal draw can put him into the winner's circle there on Thursday night.

The Mick Hardman-trained Single Bluff has box eight in the 520m Farrell's 4x2 fifth grade after winning in a slick 24.66 over 440m at Goulburn from the same draw on January 23.

Mick Hardman said: "Single Bluff was trialling so well as an unraced youngster that I put him into the Million Dollar Chase Maiden series in October.

"He had broken 24 seconds in a post-to-post slip at Wenty, which is flying, yet for some reason he raced poorly in his heat and consolation final of the MDC Maiden.

"So I took him away from Wenty for a while and he has come back really well, winning three of his past four races at Nowra and Goulburn.''

After finishing fourth in his MDC Maiden heat Single Bluff drew box one in the Consolation final on October 17 but after showing good early pace, ran off the track at the first turn and dropped out to finish sixth.

That indicates the dog will be suited by his wide draw on Thursday, but he faces stiff opposition from the favourite Good Odds Rocky, who has box one, and the in-form Sir Tick, in box five.

Sir Tick followed an impressive win over 400m at The Gardens on January 23 with an all the way Maitland 400m win three nights later in a handy 22.57.

The dog has won at two of five WP appearances and when he posted a personal best 29.95 in July, 2025, he broke down.

Trainer Dale Wright said: "During that race he injured his stoppers and when he got to the catching pen he was holding a leg in the air.

"So it was a terrific effort to break 30 under those circumstances and he is going great again now.

"But Thursday's race is a pretty handy fifth grade and Good Odds Rocky, who has box one, is going to beat to toss.''

Royal Bandit finished fifth in a heat of the group one National Futurity at WP on January 24 so drops sharply in class in Thursday's gapnsw.com.au 520m fifth grade.

Trainer Neil Staines believes Royal Bandit can win but conceded she needed to be the pacemaker.

"She has good early pace but is not overly strong,'' Staines said.

"Royal Bandit is about a 30 or 30.10 bitch around Wenty so if they don't go any quicker on Thursday she can win it.''

Jet Boots Tommy, who has box six in Thursday's M2/M3 520m Masters race, is another greyhound who possesses good early speed and needs to be the pacemaker.

Jet Boots Tommy has recorded a scintillating 5.32 first split at WP and has won his past two races, over 320m at Richmond.

He clocked a best time of the day 17.89 in his most recent win on January 28 and trainer Michael Edwards said: "Jet Boots Tommy is capable of doing anything if he nails the start.

"I'm not happy about him being boxed between the form dogs, Overflow Jill and Still Available, so he is going to need a bit of luck early.

"He is racing well but needs to get a good break over them because he is likely to get a bit tired at the finish.''

Favourite for Jet Boots Tommy's race will be Still Available, who is extremely well placed considering he has already won 17 races at WP.

Still Available is well drawn in box seven as he handles outside draws well and should get a good cart across from Overflow Jill (box five) and Jet Boots Tommy in the run to the first turn.

Best bet on Thursday should be Ritza Tiana, who has box six in the 520m fifth grade Greyhounds As Pets Stakes.

Her trainer Mark Gatt took out Saturday night's group one NSW GBOTA National Derby with Ritza Tears and may have been unlucky not to land the group one double with Ritza Tiana.

She was desperately unlucky when a fast finishing third behind Magic Bandit and Magical Ang in the NSW GBOTA National Futurity final, coming from sixth at the half-way mark to finish just over two lengths from the winner.

Best Bet: Ritza Tiana (race 10)

Best Value: Single Bluff (race 5)
