Secret Bandit is off to Richmond for Friday night's heats of the Group 2 Richmond Oaks following her stunning 29.24 performance over 520m at Wentworth Park on Saturday night.

The Jodie Lord-trained bitch took her record to nine wins from 20 starts when she exploded out of box six and led all the way to win a fifth grade by nearly seven lengths. reeling off sensational early splits of 5.35 and 13.52 before running home equally impressively in 17.62 and 11.64.

Trainer Jodie Lord's husband Andy said later: "I did not expect Secret Bandit to go quite that quick but then again, we didn't expect He's A Pearl would run 29.22 last Saturday at Wenty but he did.

"Secret Bandit is not quite two years old and greyhounds like her and He's A Pearl can improve sharply as they mature.

"Next Friday's Richmond Oaks heats will be Secret Bandit's next assignment.''

Next best time of the night on Saturday behind Secret Bandit was the 29.50 posted by Wentworth Park newcomer Ballyneale Bolt, who led all the way to win a 520m fifth grade.

Ballyneale Bolt was handled by April Mackay, the daughter of the dog's trainer, while her father was at The Gardens, where another daughter, Rose Mackay, assisted with El Rey, who won a 600m event.

After Saturday night's Wentworth Park win by Ballyneale Bolt, Jason Mackay said: "I will put this dog back in at Wentworth Park next Saturday.

"He got a bit tired tonight when he won by three lengths but that was understandable because he had not previously been out of the 520m boxes.

"Ballyneale Bolt was only visiting Wentworth Park for the third time, following a short slip and then a post-to-post slip, so he had not tackled 520m there.

"I'm so pleased this dog is going so well for his owner Billy Phelan, who lives near me in the Hunter Valley.

"Billy had greyhounds in his native Ireland and has had a couple here but none has made the ground until Ballyneale Bolt came along.''

Loco Boom will return to Wentworth Park for an advertised 1-5 wins fifth grade next Thursday night following his impressive all-the-way win in 29.69 on Saturday night.

Loco Boom had box three but ran very wide on the first turn and again through the catching pen before winning by over three lengths.

After the race trainer Jason Magri said: "He seemed to 'buckle' going through the pen and lost ground so to still win and run smart time was a good effort.

"This litter I am training by Feral Franky from Gabby Keeping can all run, but I think Loco Boom might now be the best of them.''

Gets Late Early seems to have been around "forever" but only turned four last Sunday to become eligible for Saturday night's 520m Masters event at Wentworth Park.

Having her 122nd start, Gets Late Early was headed by Sammy Ethan rounding the first turn but after trailing that dog to the home turn, finished determinedly along the rails to win by a head in 29.62.

That was her 38th win and took her earnings to $416,480, while her younger half-sister and Minnie Finn-trained kennelmate Before The Dawn won a 520m fifth grade earlier in the programme in 30.03.

The Mick Hardman-trained Zipping Hopkins and Angelic Angel, from Jenny Brown's kennels, scored their first Wentworth Park wins on Saturday night.

Zipping Hopkins, who had been runner-up in two of four previous Wentworth Park appearances, finished powerfully to win the top grade 520m race in 29.62.

Jenny Brown's Angelic Angel, who had been placed in seven of 11 previous Wentworth Park outings, led throughout from box five in 29.59.

"She finally brought her Bulli box manners to Wenty, she came out fast tonight like she usually does at Bulli,'' Brown said later.
