Greyhound Racing NSW (GRNSW) has finalised a date for its 2026 Puppy Auction, with the Richmond Race Club to again host the event on June 28, 2026.

The later date means that the eligibility for pups will now be those whelped between June 1, 2025, and February 28, 2026. Nomination will close on March 31, 2026.

The nomination fee will be $150 per greyhound payable when nominations close on March 31, and those wishing to nominate pups for the 2026 GRNSW Puppy Auction can do so through thedogs website: www.thedogs.com.au/the-dogs/puppy-auction/nomination

Once again there will be a race series attached to this year’s Auction, the 2027 GRNSW Puppy Classic Race Series, with all pups sold through the 2026 GRNSW Puppy Auction eligible for the Series.

GRNSW has made some significant changes to the Classic Series for 2027.

The Series will consist of three (3) Regional Heats and Finals varying in distances from 300m to 500m. These Finals will be worth $10,000 to the winner and an addition will be that each series will carry a $500 Breeder’s Bonus for all greyhounds nominated (limited to one payment per greyhound) in the series.

A Major Final at 500m+ will then be held with $150,000 in total prize pool made up of $100,000, $25,000 for second, $12,500 for third, $4,000 for fourth and $100 for fifth to eighth. Each of the finalists will also earn their breeder a $1,000 bonus.

Venues for all those events will be announced at a future date.

Another addition in 2027 will be the GRNSW Puppy Classic Race Series Bonus. The way the Bonus works is that greyhounds competing in all finals will collect points based on finishing position. Greyhounds must compete in at least three events in the series including the Major series, to qualify for the Bonus. The greyhound which accumulates the most points collects the Bonus. The Bonus winner receives $15,000, the runner-up $3,000 and $2,000 for third.

“We received a lot of feedback from the industry after inaugural GRNSW Puppy Classic last year, and the team worked hard on coming up with new elements for the 2027 series which we believe will allow for a wider range of auction greyhounds to compete,” Chief Executive Officer Steve Griffin said.

“We feel that spreading the prizemoney across an expanded range of events will be more beneficial to a wider variety of greyhounds, and hopefully encourage more buyers to invest at this year’s auction knowing they will have option next year.

“Last year’s Auction was a great success and result for the industry with 154 lots going through the sale ring at an average of around $7,300. We will be keen to have similar success this year.”
