An ear infection halted Freight Express' Wentworth Park campaign earlier this year but the Carole Eaton-trained dog is set to back up Monday's impressive Maitland 400m win with another success at Wentworth Park on Saturday night.
Freight Express, who boasts the outstanding strike rate of 14 wins from 31 starts, has box four in race five, a 520m fifth grade.
After winning his heat of the group one National Derby at Wentworth Park in 29.95 on January 24, Freight Express made the pace to the home turn when second, beaten three quarters of a length, by Ritza Tears in the final a week later.
"Not long after that Freight Express contracted an ear infection and I couldn't race him because of the medication required,” Carole Eaton said.
"It was frustrating because I had just worked him up to 520m so when he returned to the track I had to start him off again in 400m races at Maitland to again build him up for Wenty.
"He only jumped midfield at Maitland on Monday but showed that explosive early pace he has always possessed and was soon in front.''
Freight Express clocked 22.31, fastest time of the night at Maitland, and has the zip to overcome box four and be the front runner on Saturday night.
Carole Eaton is also upbeat about the prospects of Magic Fletch, a litter brother to Freight Express, who has box two in Saturday's opening event, another 520m fifth grade.
"Freight Express has always been able to clock faster first and second splits than his brother, but Magic Fletch's run home times have always been quicker,'' Eaton said.
"I'm pleased seeing Magic Fletch in box two because he definitely wants an inside draw.
"He also won at Maitland on Monday, clocking a fast 24.90 over the 450m trip and is in the best form of his career.
"Magic Fletch has never been run down once he has reached the lead so if he jumps cleanly on Saturday night he should be hard to beat.''
Magic Fletch's dangers are the Mark Gatt-trained duo Wyndra All Heart (box one) and Ritza Ringer (box eight).
Gatt has again placed his pair perfectly as his dogs have won a combined 13 races at WP, with their five rivals notching a total of just six wins at the track.
Blue Franky had never seen the Gosford track when he clocked a nippy 29.65 in finishing second over 515m there on Tuesday night and trainer John Chapman gives him a great chance in Saturday's second race, a 520m fifth grade.
Blue Franky had box eight when second at Gosford and Chapman is happy with his box seven draw at Wentworth Park.
"I do prefer him in even numbered boxes because he is highly strung, so a lesser time spent in the boxes suit him,'' Chapman said.
"But I have no doubt about Blue Franky handling the wide alley and I think he is going to develop into a handy Wenty Park greyhound.
"He has been running into some handy fifth graders lately and Saturday's race looks suitable for him.''
Ripper Joe produced his fastest Wentworth Park 520m time of 29.63 when a strong finishing second to Canya Handle It last Saturday night and looks ready to land his second win at the track in Saturday's 520m fifth grade third event.
Ripper Joe has box three and trainer Joe Estephan said: "He is well drawn on the inside and is improving all the time.
"Early in his career he wanted to charge towards the rails when he drew wide but while he has now settled down and can handle an outside draw he is still better off close to the fence.
"He jumped away well when he ran second at Wentworth Park last Saturday but he is a real handful for me to handle so I got my son Norm to box him then and he will do so again on Saturday.''
Best bet on Saturday looms as the Jason Mackay-trained Digger Sure Can, who should make full use of box eight in race four, a 520m fifth grade.
Digger Sure Can has won each of his two races after jumping from boxes seven and eight and with the speedy Fancy Lena drawn inside him he should get a perfect "trail" into the first bend.
