Zipping Bilpin And Blue Storm With Point To Prove

Blue Storm has clocked a scorching 29.09 winning from box eight over 515m at Sandown so should relish wearing the pink rug again in Thursday night's ninth race at Wentworth Park, a 520m fourth and fifth grade.

When Blue Storm posted his brilliant time at Sandown in March his figures were just .13sec slower than the fastest time recorded there by triple group one winner Explicit.

Blue Storm had no luck at his WP debut last Saturday when sixth to Retaliation in 29.29, easily the quickest of the five Vic Peters Classic heats.

After beginning fairly from box three, Blue Storm appeared to run into the hindquarters of a rival while approaching the first corner and veered off the track, losing all chance.

Trainer Ken Burnett said: "Blue Storm was going two to their one at the winning post with a lap to go when another dog stepped in front of him and that was the end for him.

"That was his first race at WP and while he is probably not the ideal 520m greyhound, because his future is over longer distances, he does look suitably drawn on Thursday night.

"The experience should improve him because most greyhounds need two or three goes at Wenty to produce their best form.''

Zipping Bilpin's potential as a long distance greyhound will be on the line when he contests his second WP 720m race on Thursday night.

Zipping Bilpin made his staying debut there last Thursday and was impressive in finishing second, beaten just over four lengths, behind prolific long distance winner Vodka And Ice.

The winner clocked a smart 41.74 so Zipping Bilpin posted 42.06 in defeat, time good enough to win most fifth grade 720m events at WP.

On Thursday night Zipping Bilpin has box five in the gapsnsw.com.au Stakes and trainer Courtney Barnes is upbeat about her dog's chances.

"He is improving all the time and I was really happy with his effort behind Vodka And Ice last week,'' she said.

Toughest rival for Zipping Bilpin looks to be the Jodie Lord-trained Sin City Bandit, who recorded a personal best 42sec when fifth to Mepunga Lara in a tougher WP 720m race in March.

Sin City Bandit resumed from a spell in a 520m race at WP on June 20 and was heavily backed, but after jumping smartly was outpaced and dropped out to the back of the field.

She was doing her best work at the finish when a distant fifth, and will be much better suited over Thursday's longer trip.

Zipping Bilpin's litter brother and kennel mate Zipping Colo has box one in Thursday's 720m fifth grade Mark Hughes Foundation Stakes but failed to beat a rival home at his long-distance debut at WP last Thursday.

Trainer Courtney Barnes said: "Not long ago Zipping Colo was better than Zipping Bilpin, but that is no longer the case and I was most disappointed with Colo's run last week.

"But he has the ability to do a lot better.''

Zipper Moon has been runner-up in each of her three races, all over 515m at Ladbrokes Gardens, but she should break through in Thursday night's We Stand With Tasmania Maiden over 520m.

Although she was beaten nearly six lengths when second at her most recent outing on June 20, Zipper Moon was unlucky not to finish much closer.

She drew box eight and lost ground when attempting to get to the rails while going through the catching pen.

Zipper Moon seems to be much more suitably drawn in box three on Thursday.

Another greyhound set to relish an inside alley on Thursday is Marissa Vella, who has box one in the Sponsor A Race 520m fifth grade.

Marissa Vella led throughout from box one to win her maiden race at WP on June 18 in a slick 29.74 before finishing seventh, from box six, at headquarters last Thursday.

That run can be discarded as Marissa Vella was virtually knocked out of the race through interference at the first turn.

Little Vesper just missed qualifying for Saturday night's group one Peter Mosman Opal final when she finished second in her heat and should thrive on a drop in class on Thursday.

The Jodie Lord-trained bitch has box eight in the Follow RPV Images 520m fifth grade and seems ideally positioned.

She was a strong finishing second, from box four, behind Pay Keeping in her Peter Mosman heat last Saturday but had exited box seven when a smart 29.66 winner over 520m at WP at her previous start.
