KINGSBRAE Brett is expected to enhance his prospects for the $50,000 to the winner Masters Meteor at Wentworth Park by notching his 29th win in 66 starts on Thursday night.
Trained at Leeville, near Casino, by Jacob Northfield, Kingsbrae Brett is being set for the October 8 Meteor heats and looks well positioned in box seven in the 520m Ellen Harris Appreciations M2/M3 Stakes on Thursday.
At his Wentworth Park race debut on September 10, Kingsbrae Brett raced wide from box two and finished powerfully from midfield early to win by nine lengths in 30.06.
But trainer Jacob Northfield revealed the dog had trialled a slick 29.70 in a solo hit-out prior to that success so the dog should be capable of going faster from his suitably wide draw on Thursday.
Zipping Sako is likely to be favourite for Thursday's Jeff Browne Appreciation Mixed Stakes, but trainer Jason Magri concedes he is unsure about his dog's ability to see out a strong 720m.
A winner over 520m at Wentworth Park in a very slick 29.54, Zipping Sako is tackling a long-distance trip for the first time.
He bungled the start completely when a strong finishing second over 622m at Richmond on September 11 and Magri said he had since trialled the dog over 650m at Wentworth Park.
"I gave him a 650m slip and Zipping Sako went very hard early but got a bit tired.'' Magri said.
"Because of that I'm not sure how strongly he will run 720m but I'm fairly sure he will get to the line okay."
"This is for greyhounds with one to four wins so looks an ideal race for him to start his staying career.''
Her Indulgence cut to the rails from box seven when she led throughout to win her maiden race at Wentworth Park on August 6 so looks perfectly drawn in box one in Thursday night's Anne Lloyd Appreciation 520m fifth grade.
Trainer Peter Sims said, "She loves the fence and has been trialling well."
"But good trials don't always mean they are going to race well; it is far different when they trial on their own and then have to contend with a full field."
"Her Indulgence has ability but doesn't turn two until February so she is still very young."
"Since winning at Temora on September 1, She's Indulgence finished unplaced at Goulburn 10 days later and in that race, she hit the running rail about five times."
"So, she needs more racing to help her put it all together."
Late In Winter has not won at Wentworth Park since April but the Nicole Wallace-trained dog has been in grand form at Wentworth Park at Richmond and gets his chance in Thursday's Chris Mackay Appreciation 520m fourth and fifth grade.
Late In Winter, a consistently fast beginner, has won four of his seven starts from box one and will wear the red rug on Thursday night.
He has been placed in six of his past seven appearances and with Winsome Jumbo, who uses a bit of the track in box two, Late In Winter should have no trouble securing a clear run to the first turn.
The Jodie Lord-trained staying duo Sin City Bandit and Stilton Shine meet in Thursday's 720m Brenton Scott Appreciation fourth and fifth grade, drawn in boxes four and two respectively.
This remarkably consistent pair boast a combined six wins and two seconds from their past eight Wentworth Park 720m outings, with the draw favouring Stilton Shine this week.
But her fastest Wentworth Park figures of 41.71 do not match her kennelmate's personal best of 41.56.
