Mark Gatt is enjoying one of his best years as a trainer and looks set to continue that momentum at Wentworth Park on Thursday night.
Gatt has three particularly strong prospects in Ritza Wotton, who has box two in the Vale John Tracey Stakes along with Go Lani in the Ladbrokes Withdrawals Stakes and Vonnie's Power in the Ladbrokes Bet Ticker Stakes, who will each exit box one.
"They are all drawn very well,'' Gatt said.
"Ritza Wotton has won three from seven at Wenty and while his best time is 29.96 he can really run. He is only just learning to race and he had no luck when fifth, from box six, at WP last Thursday."
"He collided at the start and was checked at the first turn but he looks to have nice box this week because Aston Florin, who has box four, runs very wide.
"Go Lani got wide from box two when she won at WP last Thursday but I'm happy seeing her in box one. She doesn't run wide when she leaves the boxes, she only gets off the track when she hits the first turn."
"Vonnie's Power lacks a bit of early pace but is perfectly positioned and her two WP wins have been from boxes one and two.''
Gets Late Early's eighth WP win last Thursday took her earnings to over $203,000 and she should add to that tally in this week's Ladbrokes Odds Surge Stakes.
An unexpected error occurred.
Trainer Minnie Finn said: "She had box four last week but box six this Thursday should suit her because she likes being drawn wide.
"She beat her kennelmate Both Bowers Ace last week and although he won't race again for a couple of weeks after pulling up sore, Gets Late Early's run was terrific.''
Gets Late Early's toughest rival looms as Midnight Spritz, who has won a dozen of 25 WP races and despite drawing box four will relish having a vacant slot on her right.
Andy Lord, whose wife Jodie trains Midnight Spritz, said: "We plan to retire her at Christmas but we think she still has a couple of Wenty wins in her.''
Minnie Finn's daughter-in-law Courtney Barnes has a good chance with her improving youngster Kerry Keeping, who has box six in the Ladbrokes Blackbook Stakes.
An unexpected error occurred.
Although she is up against Syd Swain's promising Zig Zag Man and Ken Burnett's up-and-coming sprinter Cunningham, Kerry Keeping is well placed out wide according to Finn.
"Kerry Keeping wants an outside draw and trialled 29.50 over 515m at Gosford for Courtney before leading all the way in a quick 29.34 at her first race there on November 5,'' Finn said.
The Jodie Lord kennel will also be represented on Thursday by the lightly raced duo Serial Offender in the Ladbrokes Blackbook Stakes and by Premium Edition in the Ladbrokes Bet Ticker Stakes.
"Serial Offender bungled the start completely when second at WP last Saturday so he will need to step away a lot faster,'' Andy Lord said.
"But while he had trialled at WP he had not been out of the 520m boxes previously so he might jump better this time.
"Premium Edition is a litter brother to Rinsed The Lot but although he turned two in May he was having his first start when he won over 440m at Goulburn last Friday.
"Before he raced Premium Edition looked like being top classchampion, a group race dog, but he went amiss and was sidelined for nine months.
"He is probably not the dog he was going to be but he is going pretty good and we are just grateful he has made it back to the track.''
Jodie Lord's best chance could be Omega Jacob in the Equalizer @ Stud Stakes because while he has box seven, he should get a clear run to the first turn courtesy of Sweet City Gal, in box six.
Sweet City Gal invariably crosses sharply to the rails when she leaves the starting traps.
Omega Jacob has run into the money 12 times from 21 starts at Wentworth Park
