The Group 1 Ladbrokes Peter Mosman Opal final will be run on Saturday night at Wentworth Park.
Here’s our preview of the final, including our tip to claim the $75,000 prize:
Coast Rig | Patricia Chaker
Best Wentworth Park 520m Time: 29.56
Best Track & Distance 1st Split: 5.39
Track & Distance Record: 13: 2-4-1
Box 1 History: 4: 2-2-0
Ladbrokes Price: $4
From The Trainer’s Mouth: We need her to jump and find the front because Canya Sapphire goes quick early and will be putting pressure on her. She came from behind in her heat of the WA Oaks so she can still run dogs down and Box 1 gives her a good chance. She’s really started finding her feet since coming back from WA and she’s the most experienced dog in the race which should help. She’s my best hope of the two but Summer Quinn looks hard to beat.
I’m pretty happy with the draw but she needs to beat Coast Rig out because she’s not overly strong at the back end of the her races. I was really happy with her run in the heats, she stuck to her guns behind Eriza Sparkles and they carved out good time. Her last few trials have been really good and she’s still improving all the time. 520m pretty much see’s her out and 29.45 is probably the best she can run. The rain around at the moment is a bit of an issue as well because she won’t handle a boggy track.
This is Canya Sapphire's third Group final in 2025 after appearances in the New Sensation and Nowra Puppy Classic finals
Zipping Chetty | Courtney Barnes
Best Wentworth Park 520m Time: 29.93
Best Track & Distance 1st Split: 5.56
Track & Distance Record: 2: 1-1-0
Box 3 History: 1: 0-1-0
Ladbrokes Price: $18
From The Trainer’s Mouth:
She missed it hopelessly in the heats and even though she’s not brilliant early, she can come out a lot better than that. She’s a 29.6 bitch at Wenty Park and sometimes that sort of time can win finals with a lot of young dogs. It looks like Coast Rig and Canya Sapphire will be leading but our girl is really strong and I think she’ll be a good stayer down the track so she should get home well. She’s really starting to mature, when we got her we couldn’t get near her but she’s improved leaps and bounds and she’s the better of our two finalists.

Summer Quinn | Peter Lagogiane
Best Wentworth Park 520m Time: 29.49
Best Track & Distance 1st Split: 5.34
Track & Distance Record: 9: 5-2-1
Box 4 History: 3: 1-1-0
Ladbrokes Price: $3.10
From The Trainer’s Mouth: If she begins as we know she can, she’s a 29.5 bitch and there’s only four in the race that have run that so far, so she’s a real chance. We expect her to improve off the heat run because it was her first 500m since the Flying Amy final in Queensland. She’s also the first section record holder at the Q so she can fly early and we’ve taken it slowly with her, hoping she’d peak on final night. Eriza Sparkles’ run in the heats was really special and if she repeats that, she’ll be the winner…it was just unbelievable for a dog of her age and experience.
She’s still very immature but she’s got some real upside about her. She’s still learning to get around Wenty Park but she could run 29.7 if she found the front. She’s only had six starts but she didn’t do any of her pre-training with me so we’re coming from a little way back considering her age. I don’t mind her in the middle of the track and she will go very straight to the first bend.

Ginny’s Run | Patricia Chaker
Best Wentworth Park 520m Time: 29.96
Best Track & Distance 1st Split: 5.55
Track & Distance Record: 5: 0-1-2
Box 6 History: N/A
Ladbrokes Price: $41
From The Trainer’s Mouth: I think Box 6 will suit her. She was losing her way around the first turn at Wenty Park early on so she should enjoy having some room out wide. The previous trainer told us she could run and she seems to be getting better with each start. She was flying around Richmond but it’s taken her a while to get used to Wenty Park. She’s trialled over the first two sections at Richmond in similar times to Coast Rig but she’s not as strong.

Eriza Sparkles | Steve Fitch
Best Wentworth Park 520m Time: 29.48
Best Track & Distance 1st Split: 5.37
Track & Distance Record: 2: 2-0-0
Box 7 History: N/A
Ladbrokes Price: $4.20
From The Trainer’s Mouth:
I quite prefer obscurity but her run in the heats hasn’t given me that option this week. Based on what’s around her, I’m comfortable with her being out wide. The early splits of Ginny’s Run and Zipping Ariel weren’t overly quick so I’m hoping she can clean air early on. If she gets room to wind up and can slowly work across as they run to the first bend, she’ll be in good shape. She doesn’t crash but she rails really well once she finds it so I’m hoping she stays out wide in the early stages. In saying that, she’s only had five starts so I don’t fully know her tendencies yet. As for opposition, Summer Quinn was a Flying Amy finalist and goes well and I think Coast Rig will be hard to beat too.
She’s well boxed out wide and it won’t worry her being out there, but she can probably only run 29.7 with a clear run. She definitely won’t worry Eriza Sparkles either, she won’t go hard left and she’ll run straight to the corner. I think Canya Sapphire is the dog to beat because she’s faultless, she’s the class runner of the field and has a lot of Wentworth Park experience.
