Smart Move Has Yttrium Ready for Thursday

If Jay Opetaia had entered Vista Yttrium for Saturday's Wentworth Park meeting, the dog would have been in a third-grade event so the trainer nominated him for Thursday night's fixture, where he knew his greyhound would be considered a fourth grader.

Opetaia's smart move has resulted in Vista Yttrium, a fast finishing winner of virtually a top grade race at Wentworth Park last Saturday, being drawn in Thursday's fourth and fifth grade 520m Mark Hughes Foundation Stakes.

"I believe Wentworth Park is my dog's favourite track, although I'm concerned that if he doesn't start jumping better he is not going to win too many more as he gets up in class,'' Opetaia said.

"He can show early pace when he gets away cleanly and has run a very quick first split of 5.37 at Wentworth Park''

Vista Yttrium came from behind to win in a nippy 29.71 last Saturday and is likely to be giving starts to some of his rivals on Thursday.

He has box two but Royal Panama (box one), Unleash In Miami (three) and Jungle Blast (four) are noted front-runners.

Dark Noise overcame a slow start to run down the speedy James Alarm in 29.93 at Wentworth Park last Thursday but trainer Denice Warren believes she can improve when she tackles this week's Geoff Rose Hall Of Fame Stakes, a 520m fifth grade.

Last Thursday Dark Noise had box seven but she looks better placed in box two this week.

"She runs in a pretty straight line from the boxes to the first turn but because I have a high opinion of Dark Noise, I threw her in at the deep end last week,'' trainer Warren said.

"Dark Noise had only seen Wentworth Park once and that was when I gave her a short slip from the water meter.

"So she had not previously been out of the starting boxes and even had a full post to post slip.

"Under those circumstances I was really happy with the way she handled herself and got to the line when she won last week.''

Nangar Polly has been sent out as a beaten odds-on favourite in three of her four Wentworth Park appearances but the Jodie Lord-trained bitch gets her chance to break through after drawing ideally in box one in Thursday's GBOTA Welcome Maiden, 520m.

Her odds-on defeats have been from boxes six, three and seven but she is a keen railer who will vie for favouritism on Thursday with the unraced Hotshot Lily.

The newcomer is trained by Peter Lagogiane and is a litter sister and kennelmate of Magical Ang, who has led throughout to be unbeaten in two Wentworth Park races.

Magical Ang will exit box four in Thursday's Farrell's 4x2 Stakes, a 520m one to three wins fifth grade.

Her clash with Nangar Polly's kennelmate Classy Bandit, who has box two, promises to be the highlight of Thursday's card.

Classy Bandit, winner of the Zoom Top Maiden final at Goulburn on August 1, began fast and led throughout to win in a fast 29.68 at Wentworth Park last Saturday.

Best bet on Thursday should be the consistent front-running stayer Miss Bansky in The Lids Fly on Ladbrokes Live Channels Stakes, a 720m fifth grade.

Miss Bansky has had a win and two placings in three Wentworth Park 720m outings and although her 42.46 win on August 16 was from box one, she looks suited out in box six on Thursday.

Miss Bansky has raced in the centre of the track in her three Wentworth Park appearances and when she won over 622m at Richmond at her most recent outing on August 29 she used plenty of the track.

She made the pace until just before the home bend but after being headed off at the top of the straight by Sneaky Tycoon, Miss Bansky finished powerfully down the outside to win narrowly.
