Superstar sprinter Power And Glory has been retired after sustaining a hip support injury on Wednesday morning.

The 2025 Ladbrokes Million Dollar Chase (MDC) and Golden Easter Egg winner was having a final hit out before Saturday night’s Group 1 Top Gun at The Meadows when the incident occurred.

Trainer Ken Burnett left “devastated” as the curtain draws on a phenomenal chasing career.

“We were giving him a final slip up our straight at home before the weekend and as we’ve always done, Mandy [Amanda Brunton] lets him go first and I follow him up on the bike,” Burnett said.

Power And Glory brought great joy to connections after his win in the 2025 Ladbrokes Million Dollar Chase

“I just saw him start easing up and looking around for me, so I pulled up quickly too. I ran my hands over him and I can feel where his hip support has torn away…we’re shattered, but that’s the highs and lows of greyhound racing.”

Burnett forced to make the difficult call to owner Jeff Eastburn, with both parties agreeing to call time on a career that saw Power And Glory win 18 of his 36 race starts and earn over $1.4 million in prize money.

“The journey has been enormous, it’s been a magnificent ride. He’s a once in a lifetime dog and it’s been very special to have a dog like him,” Burnett added.

“We’ve had such a good time with him, first the Easter Egg and then the MDC in the same year. He’s been a joy to train and watch race. He’s brought our family closer together as well so I shouldn’t be feeling too bad about it, he’s just too fast for his own good.”

“And Jeff is OK about. He said “what more can we ask of him, he’s given us so much joy and so much pleasure”. The timing isn’t perfect but this dog had taken us on a ride we’ll probably never get to go on again.”

The son of Hooked On Scotch x Kwong Magic now likely to pursue a stud career for connections, with Burnett under no illusion about Power And Glory’s place in chasing history.

“He’s a champion,” Burnett said.

Power And Glory retires with wins in the 2025 Ladbrokes Million Dollar Chase and Golden Easter Egg – both in a time of 29.15.

He also ran third in the Group 3 New Sensation (2024), made finals of the Group 1 Dapto Megastar (2024) and Group 3 Temora Cup (2025), and holds the Bulli 472m track record of 25.76.
