Power Surge At Wenty

It's a massive step up from winning a 520m Wentworth Park maiden to taking out a mixed 720m, but connections are quietly confident Power Squeeze can pull off that performance on Thursday night.

Power Squeeze has box seven in a 720m 0-4 wins mixed stakes after coming from third on the home turn to win a 520m maiden in a moderate 30.28 at Wentworth Park on January 8.

Andy Lord, whose wife Jodie trains Power Squeeze, said: "Power Squeeze is bred to run all day because his dam Just Terms was an outstanding long-distance bitch.

"She won the 2020 group one Zoom Top at The Meadows for caretaker trainer Anthony Azzopardi, and for us she took out a Newcastle Cup at The Gardens and a 720m WP Christmas Cheer final, earning a total of $283,000."

"The way Power Squeeze got to the line in his 520m maiden win at Wenty we are pretty sure he will get a strong 720m on Thursday night.''

Power Squeeze looks well boxed out wide as while he finished fast along the rails in his maiden win, he got off the track at the first turn and on the back straight.

Power Squeeze's kennelmate Wax And Wash looks the dog to beat in heat three of a 520m fifth grade on Saturday night after a good third on debut at Wentworth Park last Thursday.

Wax And Wash was a heavily backed $2.90 chance last week but began midfield and was hampered slightly on the first bend before being beaten over five lengths in a sizzling 29.40.

"He has box one this week and while I would prefer Wax And Wash drawn wide he has trialled fast at Wentworth Park,'' Andy Lord said.

"He broke 24 seconds in a post-to-post slip at the track before he raced last Thursday.''

Great Chat, a member of the first litter whelped by 2022 Black Top winner French Martini, makes his keenly anticipated Wentworth Park debut in Thursday night's heat one of a 520m fifth grade.

Great Chat is trained by French Martini's trainer Peter Lagogiane for former champion jockey Malcolm "Miracle" Johnston.

Lagogiane said: "Hopefully he will give Malcolm his second Wentworth Park winner as a greyhound owner.

"I am a little concerned about Great Chat's inside draw because I do prefer him drawn wide, but he is capable of very fast first and second sectional times.

"So if he steps away cleanly and can lead and do his own things up front, he should be awfully hard to beat.

"Early in his career Great Chat didn't show all that much promise but he has improved rapidly and has been going great over 401m and 520m at Richmond.''

Gets Late Early has come in season and will miss Thursday night's Wentworth Park Sports Bar 520m Masters leaving trainer Minnie Finn with only Both Bowers Ace to represent her kennel in that event.

Both Bowers Ace finished third to Gets Late Early and Sammy Ethan in a similar race at Wentworth Park last Saturday night and from his suitable box eight draw has a great chance of notching his 15th win at headquarters.

Favourite will be Sammy Ethan, who was run down by Gets Late Early in the last couple of bounds last week and who will exit an ideal box one alley.

Minnie Finn's best chance on Thursday looks to be Winsome Rambo, ideally positioned in box one in the 520m gapnsw.com.au fourth and grade.

Winsome Rambo had box one when he won in a slick 29.64 over 520m at Richmond on February 4 and recorded his personal best Wenty figures of 29.56 while wearing the red rug on October 11.

"He hasn't been getting to the line as strongly as I would have liked but Winsome Rambo is certainly perfectly boxed on Thursday,'' Finn said.

Safest bet on Thursday looms as the Jason Magri-trained Gloria Keeping, who has box eight in heat two of the 520m fifth grade.

She wore the pink vest when she clocked a sizzling 29.40 winning at Wentworth Park last Thursday so on times there she an advantage of the equivalent of nine lengths over his nearest rival.

Best Bet Gloria Keeping (race 11)
Best Value Winsome Rambo (race 8)
