Hard To Resist: She’s Alluring At Wenty

She's Alluring, who was fastest qualifier for the Robert Smith Memorial Maiden at The Gardens and was desperately unlucky in the final, is set to win first-up at Wentworth Park on Thursday night.

She's Alluring meets a moderate 520m fifth grade lineup in the Book Your Next Function Stakes and looks superbly drawn in box two.

She had box one when she won her heat of the Robert Smith on February 7, beginning only fairly but showing dazzling early speed to lead at the first turn.

She's Alluring proceeded to win by nearly 10 lengths in 29.31, not far outside the track record of 28.96.

In the final She's Alluring drew box six and after a moderate getaway showed good pace before being hampered while trying to reach the fence.

She was then hampered on the first corner so her effort to finish fifth, seven lengths behind the winner Blue Storm in 29.46, was outstanding.

Ascend Fern has been a revelation since joining the Blue Mountains kennels of rookie trainer Robert Way, and is chasing his 10th win in 23 starts for the Faulconbridge conditioner in Thursday night's Get Trackside 520m fifth grade.

Ascend Fern has struck a particularly strong grade five event but is well drawn in box two and capable of causing an upset.

Way, who has been training for just 18 months, said: "I bought him after he had seven starts for just a maiden win at The Meadows.

"Ascend Fern had been with two trainers in Victoria but seems to have thrived being in a small kennel, with only two other greyhounds on the property, so is the king-pin of the place.

"Greg Sutherland, a neighbour who trains Screaming Violet, a winner of 22 races, has given me plenty of helpful advice on training and Ascend Fern clocked 30 seconds flat in his first 520m trial at Wentworth Park.

"He then clocked the same time finishing second from box one in a National Derby heat there on January 24 and was second most of the way when fourth to He's A Pearl in 29.12 in Richmond Derby heat last week.''

Hardest for Ascend Fern to beat looms as Canya Handle It, who led all the way at his 520m debut at Wentworth Park on February 12, setting up a big early lead before winning by just under a length in 29.93.

Canya Handle It showed the benefit of that experience by leading throughout again at Wentworth Park last Thursday, reeling off a slick 5.47 first split before winning comfortably in 29.70.

Zipping Violet made an impressive Wentworth Park debut for trainer Courtney Barnes last Thursday and is poised to record back-to-back wins in Thursday's gbota.com.au 520m fifth grade.

Last week Zipping Violet was having only her third start and second beyond 401m when she led throughout in a handy 29.82.

She began smartly from box six and crossed to the rails to lead with a lap to go, clocking a nippy first section of 5.47.

Zipping Violet has box four in Thursday's race but the field is no stronger than the lineup she beat easily last week and she should relish having an empty slot on her left, with box three vacant.

Summer Quinn was among the hard luck stories from last Friday's Richmond Oaks heats, bungling the start before being skittled when going fast at the first turn and winding up fourth to First Lady.

None of her rivals in Thursday's Vale Bruce Fletcher top grade 520m race has matched her personal best WP figures of 29.46 while she also boasts the quickest Wentworth Park first split of 5.34.

On those figures, Summer Quinn should only need to begin cleanly to lead all the way from box three.
